Job Description:Centrally located within the heart of California, Adventist Health Tulare has been serving the Central Valley since 2018. We are comprised of a 108-bed acute care hospital, emergency department and provide primary and specialty care services to best serve our community. In addition to the beautiful landscape, it also offers a great cost of living and close-knit communities.Job Summary:Serves as technical consultant and direct supervisor of laboratory personnel and manages the performance of all laboratory testing. Develops and maintains policies, standards and quality control practices and oversees lab safety and maintenance. Serves as a resource medical technologist in assigned section and has the responsibility/authority to assure that the laboratory meets all accreditation requirements and applicable OSHA standards.Job Requirements:Education and Work Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences or allied health technologies or equivalent: Required
  • Five years' clinical laboratory experience: Preferred
  • Two years' leadership experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license in state of employment: Required
  • Current certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA): Preferred
Essential Functions:
  • Oversees all laboratory testing and coordinates all point of care testing (POCT). Reviews and evaluates the validity and accuracy of test results. Functions as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist when needed. Identifies education and competency needs and conducts laboratory personnel training programs on instrumentation, technology and procedure as needed. Conducts training programs on instrumentation, technology and procedure as needed.
  • Establishes the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including precision, accuracy, reference ranges and reportable ranges. Evaluates new and evolving developments in laboratory instrumentation, procedures, reagents and automation for possible implementation. Acts as a liaison to other departments of the medical center for the appropriate laboratory specialty. Is responsible for the department meeting all regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates equipment and instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration program to ensure proper working order. Oversees quality control and ensures compliance with rules, regulations and accreditation requirements of regulatory agencies, including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), Joint Commission (JC), AABB, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Manages staffing to ensure coverage. Recommends promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs. Resolve simple, informal complaints of employee and referring other to supervisor. Recommend to supervisor promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs of team members. Plans and conducts training programs for medical technicians and medical technologist students and new employees.
  • Oversees quality control, quality assurance and preventive maintenance activities for the assigned section. Manages and maintains all sectional quality control records. Previews and ensures technological and scientific accuracy of QA tests and procedures. Recognizes and addresses Quality Assurance (QA) concerns by initiating QA reports and conferring with Medical Staff on Laboratory findings, value of certain clinical tests, test availability and turnaround.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
