Position Summary: The Apprentice Nurse, under supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs basic patient care procedures to support the unit health care team. The Apprentice Nurse is enrolled in a prelicensure RN nursing program and follows an approved skills list (below) when working on their assigned nursing unit. The Apprentice Nurse progressing through their nursing program, their ability to perform more of the approved skills increases and acclimates them to the role of the licensed nurse upon graduation.Position Qualifications: Minimum Education: Currently a student nurse enrolled in senior year of an accredited school of nursing Current nursing student in good academic standing Completed Basic Fundamentals of Nursing Minimum Experience: On-the-job training and sufficient previous clinical experience as a student nurse Required Training Course(s): American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Provider Certification Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology Proper telephone etiquette Basic computer skills Ability to perform detailed assignments Ability to work under pressure Ability to effectively communicate with patients, hospital staff, and visitors Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs.) Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients Lifts supplies/equipment Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching Working Conditions: Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness) Subject to varying and unpredictable situations Handles emergency or crisis situations May perform emergency care Subject to long irregular hours Pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries
