ABOUT CHILDREN SERVICES OF ROXBURY: Founded in 1972 Children’s Services of Roxbury’s (CSR) mission is to provide high quality services to economically-disadvantaged children, youth, families, and individuals thereby promoting and strengthening family life and individual growth. CSR serves approximately 6,000 families across Massachusetts, serving families through four key services areas: Early Education and Care, Behavioral Health Services, Youth and Family Services and Housing and Stabilization. There are 22 programs operating under those four services areas. CSR operates across in 4 cities, has a staff of 400 employees, and an operating budget of $28M.OVERVIEW: The lack of adequate, affordable housing further destabilizes economically-disadvantaged adults and families. CSR’s Housing and Stabilization Services staff is committed to addressing the needs of individuals and families struggling with homelessness, by providing permanent or temporary shelter along with food and clothing. Our safe, secure, and nurturing environments help families and individuals regain their self-esteem, develop life skills and financial independence, while remaining healthy and connected to their communities.POSITIONS AVAILABLE:Multiple full-time day, evening or overnight positions are available.Schedules will either be Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – SaturdayHours would be one of the following: 3pm – 11pm evenings; 11pm – 7am overnights.SUMMARY:The Residential Counselor’s role is to support and maintain safety for families living in a congregate shelter. This position’s role includes; orientating families to the shelter, completing paperwork, assigning and checking on chore completion, dispense supplies, recording inventory and documenting activities in a congregate shelter in a manner that is aligned with the agency’s mission.RESPONSIBILITIES:· Engage with all family members in a positive, professional, non-judgmental manner which encourages building and sustaining healthy working relationships.· Communicate with a solution-focused, non-punitive approach and help to resolve problematic situations and behaviors.· Utilize problem solving, conflict resolution, mediation, crisis intervention and de-escalation procedures and trauma informed care among and between participants.· Monitor and supervise behavior, completion of tasks, needs, and belongings of families living in the shelter· Work as a team to ensure residents are functioning in accordance with program standards and support residents with complying with Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and CSR/Millennium House shelter policies and procedures.· Support the intake of new families to ensure families are welcomed, shown to assigned unit/room, provided with keys, unit/room supplies, shelter rules, receives introduction to neighborhood and basic assessment of potential immediate needs to ensure a smooth transition to shelter.· Performs room and unit checks, hourly rounds, documents and maintains communication logs regarding resident daily activities, visitors, medical & emergency information and problems, communicates information with staff at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure smooth shift transition, functioning and effective service delivery.· Monitor and manage the safety and functioning of the building· Provides administrative and operational support: Manages a safe, secure and clean shelter environment, answers telephones and front doors, data entry, distributes mail, lead children activities, assists with housing applications and housing related goals, and accessing local resources.· Utilize Language Line to communicate effectively with residents whose native language is not English.· Attends supervision, staff meetings and trainings· Must work on-site.
