- Supervise activity of engineers, designers, contractors, vendors, and outside engineering firms to ensure safe and proper installations to protect plant assets
- Prepare and submit appropriation requests for plant capital projects
- Prepare and recommend purchase requisitions for plant capital projects
- Supervise contractor installation work and may have final approval of process and installation design
- Implement and facilitate the execution of capital projects so they are completed on time and within budget
- Perform project work including estimating costs, purchase requisitions, economic evaluation, specifying equipment, cost tracking, stakeholder buy-in, permitting, legislative compliance, developing contractor scope of work documents, construction supervision and start-up support, etc.
- Manage equipment installations which may be during off-production times, including Sundays and holidays
- Prepare design and installation drawings and help determine project deadlines and priorities
- Build safety and plant environmental compliance into project designs and installation
- May work as part of plant reliability team to optimize utilization of production units to meet customer requirements and meet cost reduction goals
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required
- At least 5 years of experience in a project manager or project engineer role in the chemical or petrochemical industry required. 10+ years of experience highly preferred.
- Project management (PMP) certification a plus
- Demonstrated competence in handling capital projects from design phase through execution
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills
- Able to respond to call outs and flexibility to work overtime and extended hours during weekdays (including weekends and holidays, if needed)
- Willing to travel on short notice
- Strong background in computer software applications such as SAP, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
- Experience with DCS programming (Honeywell TDC 3000 or similar) would be helpful, but not required
- Familiarity with code requirements and using process safety tools (PHA, MOC, Root Cause Analysis, etc)
- Team player in a team environment; good interpersonal skills
- Ability to exert influence in situations where direct control is limited
