- Ordering common laboratory reagents and other supplies and for assuring that supply levels in the lab are adequate. Prepares materials for shipping, assuring compliance with regulations for biological samples.
- Operates moderately complex equipment including microscopes, microtomes, cryostats
- Techniques used will include, histological processing, cutting paraffin and frozen sections from skeletal preparations, microscopy, performing histological stains and immunohistochemistry.
- Interact and communicate with a variety of different researchers (postdocs, technicians, principal investigators) in helping to trouble shoot experiments.
- Organizes and accurately maintains written records of experimental procedures and data collection. Has a high degree of computer literacy.
- Participates in upkeep of lab, performs basic maintenance on laboratory equipment (cleans, disassembles, stores, replaces worn parts) and reports equipment requiring advanced repair.
- Participates in weekly lab meetings and journal clubs.
- Will acquire skills to be able to work independently and as a team leader, assist in training new laboratory personnel in lab techniques and procedures.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Duties will be performed in a research laboratory. No direct patient contact will occur or be expected in the future.
- Must be willing to work with animal and human specimens. Studies are directed at studying the effects of hormones and mineral ions on growth and skeletal development.
- Work will be conducted over a 40-hour workweek, but actual schedule may become flexible as experience is gained.
