Job Description:Summary:Barr Engineering Co. seeks a business intelligence analyst to enhance our business intelligence and data analysis capabilities. The role combines aspects of BI and data science to support our internal data warehouse and reporting needs and the data analysis needs of our company and clients. The person in this role will also contribute to advancing our rapidly expanding data-related capabilities using the latest cloud-based tools. This role is well-suited for someone passionate about data who wants to work in an environment with abundant opportunities to apply and develop their technical skills.Responsibilities include:Continue the design, development, and documentation of Barr’s enterprise data warehouse, dashboarding, and self-service reporting ecosystem using the Microsoft Business Intelligence toolset (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS tabular, Power BI, Azure)Conduct data analysis using statistical best practices and data science methodologies (e.g., hypothesis testing, machine learning, regression analysis) to gain insights from complex datasets and develop predictions of future performanceCollaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and document business requirements and define analytical and reporting objectivesDesign and develop database objects (databases, tables, views, stored procedures, etc.) within a normalized and dimensional data warehouse environmentDevelop, maintain, and support ETL processes (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory)Create intuitive data visualizations using Power BI, Excel, scripting languages and other reporting toolsCommunicate findings and insights to business stakeholders through clear and concise presentations and reportsCreate and maintain system documentation (e.g., data dictionaries, procedures documents)Mentor other data-focused employees to advance their data capabilities and understandingMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, business analytics, or a related field, or equivalent work experienceThree years of related work experienceExperience designing and developing interactive data visualizations (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Plotly) and ETL pipelines (e.g., SSIS)Experience with exploratory data analysis and development of predictive models for business purposesProficiency developing database queries in SQL and analytical scripts in Python, R, or MatlabAbility to gather and document requirements for BI or data analysis projectsStrong organizational skills, including ability to plan, monitor, and follow through on work commitments and confirm priorities with stakeholdersHigh level of commitment to deliver exceptional client serviceExcellent written and oral communication skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePreferred Qualifications:Experience developing data warehouse tools for business purposesExperience designing and developing dimensional data modelsFamiliarity with Microsoft 365 and Azure technologies such as Data Factory, Data Lake, Azure Analysis Services, and SharePoint OnlineFamiliarity with AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science concepts and tools, specifically in relation to time series analysisStrong understanding of security in an integrated on-premises and cloud-based business intelligence environmentA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Bismarck, Denver, Duluth, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Jefferson City, Minneapolis, or Salt Lake City offices.Colorado Applicants Only:Compensation:The anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000–$105,000/year. Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
