- Distribution Center Expenditures and Budget
- Maintain Capital budgets for replacement of material handling equipment, and execute annual operations budget and approved capital budgets
- Responsible for processing all payables and tracking expenses to ensure budgets are not exceeded. Provide expense forecasts as needed.
- Coordinate with Purchasing Manager and Distribution Director on all bids and negotiations for DC purchases.
- Distribution Center HR, Performance, Communication
- Communicate with all levels of management and hourly team members on a regular basis, keeping them informed of priorities, schedules, changes and events; and facilitate accomplishment of objectives and a positive work environment.
- Hire, develop, and motivate the management team.
- Apply sound communication and motivational techniques; and support programs for supervising, counseling and disciplining subordinates.
- Partner with the Human Resources team to achieve adequate staffing within the approved operations plan.
- Monitor appropriate team member performance appraisals to recommend promotions, wage increases, and terminations.
- Plan, direct, and execute internal controls to meet prescribed productivity, customer service levels and operational performance goals. Work through Assistant General Manager to achieve all goals.
- Maintain open communications with the stores and actively solicit feedback on the services provided by the Distribution Center. Act on feedback to constantly improve service.
- Execute and support the company safety program designed to ensure the safety of all team members within the work place. Coordinate efforts with Risk Management and the Director of Distribution.
- Facility, Systems, Projects, Loss Prevention
- Ensure the execution of standardized procedures for operating and managing the physical facilities, equipment, and inventory.
- Direct the IT function in the DC. Ensure systems are running efficiently through the IT Supervisor, and that all equipment is kept in working order. Communicate issues to Distribution Director.
- Develop procedures which will properly utilize the facility's equipment and maintain, same in a good and safe working condition
- Oversee maintenance records and projects related to building maintenance and fixturing, and act as project manager for DC capital projects
- Partner with Loss Prevention to ensure the physical security of the DC, assets, and inventory.
- Coordinate special requests for merchandise with the Store and Merchandising departments.
- Participate on distribution project teams acting as a co-facilitator, facilitator, or subject matter expert.
- May serve on cross-functional teams.
- Multi-shift distribution center experience
- Broad knowledge of Warehouse Management System, Learning Management System, Talent Management System, and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.
- Experience with automated picking systems, conveyors, and other DC technologies necessary to operate current DC's.
- Broad range of managerial skills required with particular emphasis on leadership, supervision, motivation, communication and planning.
- Ability to develop effective relationships, provide leadership, integrate diverse organizations and individuals toward profitability objectives is critical.
- Ability to lead and develop people with excellent communication skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to embrace and drive change.
- Ability and willingness to work alternative shifts as required.
- Duties include frequent alternate standing, walking, bending, stooping, and sitting, throughout the course of the shift
- Required to work in a physical environment that is subject to temperature extremes, movement of mobile and fixed equipment, possible exposure to hazardous products, dust and other conditions associated with a warehouse operation
