The Bandag facility in Muscatine has been in operation for more than 50 years and is where the retread equipment is made that directly supports Bandag retread dealers. Bandag dealers use this equipment in their retread plants to create quality retread tires for fleet customers of all sizes.ResponsibilitiesIn the Senior R&D Lab Technician Role you will:
- Follow all safety processes and procedures. Document LOTO, PPE, ECP & work instructions for assigned equipment.
- Provide safety training for assigned equipment.
- Follow safety protocols (PPE, etc.) & proper work instructions/ standard operating procedures for the following laboratory equipment: lab Banbury mixer, lab 2 roll mills, test specimen press, PCT press, guillotines, various lab scales, BFG flexometer, RPA, ODR, MDR, MV2000, T2020, RDA, Adhesion puller, QC Cushion Tack, BFG Tack tester, autoclave, Specific Gravity, Durometer testing.
- Basic understanding in the operation and maintenance of all lab testing and rubber processing equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, equipment calibrations and cleaning on assigned lab equipment.
- Foundational understanding of the Bandag retread process.
- Knowledge to work with rubber compounds and solvents.
- Perform cure studies & blow point trials.
- Responsible for the Quality of products produced.
- Responsible for reporting and acting on problems that affect safety, housekeeping or the quality of products and procedures.
- Responsible for keeping records of work accomplished and effectively reporting findings.
- Provide coverage in the shop as assigned or for personal development.
- Responsible for completion of assigned tasks on Lab work orders with minimum supervision.
- Must be licensed for fork truck operation.
- Responsible for operating fork truck per safety requirements.
- Responsible to assist other departments as appropriate.
- Must be able to assist in safety equipment rescue training and act if necessary.
- Bachelors degree in chemistry, material science, polymer science or related field.
- Basic skill with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
- Capable of efficiently using existing computer hardware and software systems to collect laboratory information, operate equipment and run standard diagnostics programs.
- Fundamental understanding Statistical Process Control concepts
- Must be able to collaborate in a team environment effectively.
- Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with others in a professional manner.
- Committed to continuous learning.
- Technicians will have working relationships with: TPD compounder & mold engineers, Manufacturing, Quality Systems, TSG, Purchasing & GES.
- Work in the R&D Compounding Lab and R&D Shop as assigned.
- Work a different shift as required in support of R&D efforts or personal development.
- Manipulate materials up to 120 pounds.
- May require the ability to stand on feet for extended periods.
