An Environmental Technician I conducts various inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with environmental laws, rules and regulations to prevent illicit discharges and illegal drain connections that affects the City's storm water drainage systems; and performs other related duties as required.Current Vacancy Information:
There are two (2) vacancies with the Department of Environmental Services, Office of Administrative Support Division and Environmental Quality Division. Work involves occasional exposure to heat, gas and traffic hazards; exposure to chemicals and potentially contaminated water; and field investigative work which includes climbing ladders, descending into trenches; moderate lifting and carrying of equipment (15-44 pounds); walking on uneven, slippery and obstructed surfaces such as platforms, steep slopes, active construction sites, drainage channels, stream beds and embankments, etc. Work also requires occasional overtime work, including nights, weekends and holidays. The position also requires the operation of a City passenger vehicle as part of the regular work duties.If you qualify for the position, your name will be placed on an eligible list for further consideration. Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two years of technical field experience which involved sampling, inspectional, and/or investigational work relating to the enforcement of laws, ordinances, and/or rules and regulations.Substitution: An Associate's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in Engineering Technology or Natural Sciences and/or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, or in a Biological or Physical Science will substitute for the required two years of technical field experience.Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit for the substitution.
