- Handle incoming and outbound calls to schedule patients in appropriate time blocks.
- Verifies orders and/or referrals are present when required to schedule an appointment.
- Works with provider offices and other departments within Carson Tahoe Health to validate orders or referrals for appointment scheduling accuracy.
- Interview and pre-register patients in a prompt, accurate, professional, and confidential manner. Verify all information is accurate and complete.
- Collect proper insurance information and secure benefit coverage to promote prompt payment from insurances.
- Provide visit estimates to communicate and collect any out of pocket amounts owed for scheduled appointments.
- Provide patients with information regarding completion of check-in process via MyChart and any preparatory instructions that ensure patients arrive prepared for their visit, including required forms.
- Check medical necessity for patients with Medicare scheduling ancillary procedures.
- Maintains performance standards developed and outlined by leadership to include, but not limited to, call volume, call quality, and scheduling/registration error rates.
- Works closely with Pre-Access team and operations to communicate schedule changes, cancellations, and STAT requests.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years of experience in either a healthcare setting, patient access, call center, scheduling, customer service, or clinical role.
- Extensive experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to analyze data
- Experience in Epic reporting and patient access workflow
- Familiarity with call center workflows and technology
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to visually present information and data in a clear manner
- Proven organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management abilities
- Ability to be flexible and work independently as necessary
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills with all levels of internal and external customers.
- Medical terminology
- Scheduling and/or Patient Access experience
