The DepartmentThe is a dynamic technical computer organization that readily adapts to the needs of the City of Torrance. CIT administers and maintains the City's communications and computing network environment, software applications, network/hardware infrastructure, desktop computers, telephones (desktop and cellular), and mobile radio communications for Police, Fire and the entire City's wireless communication infrastructure. CIT is responsible for approximately 200+ different business applications and office automation software programs and is also responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of all data passing through or stored on our network.
The Position
The IT Network Support Unit coordinates the maintenance, testing, monitoring, security and troubleshooting for all centralized server IT hardware and software. As part of the IT Network Support team, the Information Technology Analyst (IT Network Support) administers and maintains email accounts, internet access, and server room. Together with the Systems Analyst, this individual works daily with telecommunications and computer professionals to deploy new systems, modify existing networks, and troubleshoot problems. This individual also handles non-routine or complex maintenance, testing, monitoring, security and troubleshooting and technical support for all centralized and server IT hardware and software, and assists with and conducts the overall analysis and design of systems for network operations within the City.Information Technology Analysts also assist in the analysis of client requirements for new and existing systems, makes subsequent recommendations, and designs appropriate systems to improve automation of City processes and client productivity.NOTE: Employees are eligible for premiums up to a maximum of 15% for IT certification. .For more information about the duties of the position, click .QUALIFICATION GUIDELINESAny combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills such as:An Associate's degree in Data Processing or Computer Sciences or a Certification in Data Processing;
AND
Three years of journey level related experience in technical computer support with at least two years of professional technical experience working with computer equipment and networks software currently in use by the City.Successful candidates will possess the following:Experience administrating Microsoft 365, such as Exchange Online, Entra ID, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams;Experience working with server hardware in an enterprise environment such as data center maintenance, installing servers and network storage;Experience managing virtualized platform clusters, such as Microsoft Hyper-V, Azure Stack HCI, or VMWare vSphere;Experience working with network equipment such as routers, switches, firewall, and wireless access points;Experience administrating Windows Server environment, such as Active Directory, File/Print server, WSUS, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP;Experience managing backup solutions, cluster replication, and disaster recovery;Good knowledge of security concepts and experience working with an EDR solution;Good knowledge of scripting languages and experience with PowerShell;Microsoft 365, Azure, or Cisco Administrator certification is a plus;The ability to provide technical guidance and training to the end-users;The ability to research and evaluate new technologies, and present recommendations;The ability to be self-directed and work independently with minimum supervision;Self-motivation and passion to learn;Good oral and written communication skills;A team-oriented attitude and the ability to work well with others;Knowledge to perform security audits to safeguard equipment and systems.HOW TO APPLY & EXAM PROCESSInterested candidates must submit an online application and supplemental questionnaire at .Application submission will be accepted on a continuous basis until the position(s) is/are filled.
