Mammography Technologist

• Performs all routine mammograms, demonstrating the anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection, according to department policy and procedure.
• Receives consultation request, checking for special instructions from the requesting physician, consults with the radiologist as necessary.
• Pleasantly greet patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself.
• Explains the examination procedure completely to the patient and their family if present.
• Completes history form with accuracy on all patients.
• Evaluates every film for technical quality, proper positioning, patient identification, stamp and right and left markers.
• Updates patient exam file, records unusual conditions or limitations, documents film usage. Performs other paperwork as applicable.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and special skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in mammography (adult and geriatric).
• Assists with retrieving and coordinating films needed for biopsy procedures.
• Assists with needle localization and stereotactic procedures always practicing aseptic techniques.
• Telephone or fax results when requested with no more than two omissions annually.
• In the absence of film room staff, prepare the patients' jacket with the proper bar code labels and, if necessary, perform loaning procedures.
• Receives and / or initiates no more than five two minute phone calls per week.
• Promotes a professional image by adhering to the established dress code.
• Demonstrates cost-effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment by minimal wastage of supplies. Notifies supervisor when supplies are at low levels.

• A Massachusetts Mammography license and ARRT is required.
• Proficiency in all areas of mammography and quality assurance testing of mammographic equipment.
