Our research group use insects and spiders to understand how animals cope with nutritional challenges across ecotones.The postdoctoral researcher joining our team will participate in field expeditions to South Africa, Kenya and wetlands around Louisiana. In addition, the researcher will perform routine laboratory work related to trophic ecology, assist in establishing new techniques, organizing standard lab operating procedures, prepare lab reagents, and assist in training of lab members with research projects as needed.Duties Include:
70% Preparation, implementation, and monitoring of isotopic labeling experiments, Collection and preparation of samples generated for stable isotopes and/or lipids analyses , Quantification of mercury and heavy metals in samples collected from Louisiana salt marshes. Prepare manuscripts for publication.10% Participate in local and international field trips.10% Provide support in preparing proposals and in report writing.5% Present findings during lab meetings, departmental seminars, and scientific conferences.5% Assist in supervision, assign and review work of students and lab staff, provide advice and technical assistance.Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Ecology, Entomology or related fields. Significant experience in field work, trophic ecology, Bayesian mixing models is needed.Preferred Qualifications:PhD in Zoology, Ecology, Entomology and related fields, Previous experience with fatty acid extraction, arachnid ecology, experience with insects model systems, previous field work experience in remote areas, and significant knowledge of computational approaches applied to trophic ecology.Additional Job Description:Special Instructions: Please submit a current cv and contact information of 3 references.
