Responsibilities Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Pharmacist, this position will be responsible for day-to-day comprehensive pharmacy technician services in a complex healthcare environment. This may include dose dispensing technology and sterile medication compounding, and chemotherapy medication compounding. The Pharmacy Technician III will work in advanced technical areas, such as satellite operating room and intensive care unit, as well as be efficient in tech check tech and code response practices.The Pharmacy Technician III will function as a subject matter expert in at least two sophisticated technical areas and can strategically use interpersonal, customer service, decision-making, and collaboration skills, to support and influence operational objectives.Job Responsibilities:
- Partner with care providers and pharmacists to ensure that patient receives the needed medication accurately, safely, in accordance with all legal requirements and policies and in a professional and timely manner.
- Under the direction of the pharmacist, receive prescription/orders from electronic medical record, process manually or using the appropriate computer system and protocols, prepare drug therapy and/or dispense medication in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with all legal, regulatory agency and Fairview requirements.
- Maintain the IV hoods or isolators, clean room, ante room according to manufacturer’s specifications and regulatory requirements as applicable.
- Coordinate ordering, delivery of medications, supplies and equipment to patients and clinical areas as requested.
- Participate, coordinate or lead regulatory, quality assurance and process improvement activities and other projects as assigned.
- Facilitate the training of pharmacy technicians.
- Other responsibilities as assigned including but not limited to: data collection, reporting, process improvement and maintenance of patient education materials.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months of sterile compounding experience.
- One year of pharmacy technician experience in a complex healthcare environment.
- Eligible to become registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MN State Board of Pharmacy and eligible to become certified with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- Nationally certified or become certified within 12 months of employment. Certifying exams must have National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation, with examples including, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam and The Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
- Ability to work at various sites, depending on departmental needs throughout the MHealth Fairview system.
- Ability to work the majority of the time in the I.V. Room.
- Follow all USP 795, USP 797, and USP 800 regulations related to non-sterile and sterile compounding practices.
- Completion of an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training program.
- Two years of pharmacy technician experience in a complex healthcare environment.
