- Trains in and performs all daily work assignments as required by the department Supervisor and Lead Man
- Understands regulations and safety policies that apply to the assigned job and department
- Ensures completion of all documentation as defined by the Union Tank Car Company Quality Assurance Manual
- Participates in the proper storage of incoming & on-hand materials in designated areas as required by the Manager of Materials
- Participates in the inspection and quality of tanks produced from the assigned department
- Participates actively in the safety of the work force
- Performs inspections to issued items to ensure that they are safe and in satisfactory condition
- Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards
- Participates actively in the shop organization and cleanliness
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
- Switchman and Material Handler positions require a valid driver's license with a clean record
- Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently
- Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions
- Safety and quality focused
- Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract
- Will have to lift 50 pounds safely
- Will perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
- May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection
- Some positions may require working in inclement weather and require constant walking
