- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years of sales experience required, with a solid understanding of the products being sold.
- Must possess basic math skills and Excel spreadsheet use.
- Must possess a general understanding of Site Work/Utilities/Water and Sewer.
- Must pass company required drug screen, physical and background screening.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license and have the ability to travel to Coburn's customer and company branch locations.
- Identify job by going online (i.e. McGraw Hill, Dodge, Grade Beam, I Square Foot, etc.) or obtaining specifications from the customer.
- Enter identified statewide jobs onto appropriate state's spreadsheet and save to commercial server.
- Obtain job specifications from branches, customers, and online resources.
- Read specifications, plans, addendums, and notes and build outline of fixtures to quote and call potential customers to inquire about whether they would like to bid on a job.
- Cross-reference specified products with Coburn's products, whenever possible.
- Collect vendor quotes and prepare suggested markup, based on market and the size of the job and prepare quote.
- When necessary, create a second quote (BD.4), substituting price-favorable products for more expensive products (value engineering) and discuss prices with branch to adjust for market-sensitive margins.
- Maintain notes on relevant spreadsheets to track bidding, who lost the job, who was awarded the job, and why.
- File and archive necessary information when appropriate.
- Work with the branch to determine which products are to be used on the job and negotiate with the vendor to identify ways to increase profit margin.
- Put quote in order and work with Submittals Clerk to email, print, and provide proper submittals needed by the contractors and branch.
- Build relationships with architects, engineers, contractors and customers to understand their preferences and needs.
- Research information on new products, product changes, and up-to-date knowledge of product accessories.
- Maintain awareness of other vendors who carry similar products, and
- Attend product training (in person or via web-ex) and trade shows, as needed or requested.
- Learn and understand products that meet government conservation requirements.
- Maintain an awareness and understanding of market pricing and company profitability measurements.
- Participate in annual physical inventory.
