Job Summary:
Safely operate shuttle buggy per manufacturer’s operations training to receive hot mix asphalt from dump trucks and transfer it into the paver hopper/ hopper insert in a continuous flow to facilitate non-stop paving. Perform daily machine inspection and maintenance as per manufacturer’s guidelines. This hourly, non-exempt position will work with direct and indirect supervision.Essential Functions:
  • Perform machine walk around inspection daily, checking fluid levels, hoses, tires, chains/sprockets/wear components to verify the machine is capable of performing safely and productively.
  • Report equipment deficiencies to Foreman via squawk sheet.
  • Perform pre-shift component check to verify all systems are functioning properly.
  • Operate the shuttle buggy in coordination with the dumpman and Paver Operator to match the material inflow, on-board storage and material discharge to the paver to meet the prescribed tons per hour goal, facilitating non-stop paving.
  • Safely operate equipment in and among live traffic.
  • Maintain constant radio communication with the dumpman and Paver Operator to monitor paving speed, truck exchange, obstacles or site conditions to maximize safety, quality and productivity.
  • Operate the shuttle buggy to perform off-set paving operations ensuring buggy is on solid/stable ground with minimal slope to eliminate roll over possibility.
  • Perform end-of-day maintenance, cleanup and walk around inspection to ensure mechanical and physical condition of unit meets manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Adhere to, convey and enforce shuttle buggy safety rules.
  • Perform laboring assignment on crew when shuttle buggy duties are complete or not required.
  • Frequently drive and/ or travel long distances to various work locations.
  • Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
  • Frequently work more than 40 hours per week and non-traditional hours including night shift, Saturdays and occasionally Sundays.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Knowledge of:
  • Mechanical skills for machine maintenance.
  • Communication hand signals.
Ability to:
  • Learn and follow GOH Company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for the state in which you reside with acceptable driving record per company minimum standards for drivers.
  • Must successfully complete PennDOT Flagger Training Course.
Education:
  • Prefer high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
  • Previous experience operating paving equipment or heavy equipment preferred.
Required Training:
  • PADOT Flagger Training
  • Biannual Paving Training
  • Behavior Based Training - Tool Box Talk
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a field environment with exposure to dust, inclement weather conditions, extreme heat, noise and vibrations.
  • Ability to physically climb on and off equipment safely.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain.
