- Responsibilities for the position include providing the expertise of a coastal engineer to all conventional aspects of coastal engineering projects.
- Demonstrate understanding of principles and practices of coastal engineering, coastal hydrodynamics, and wave theory.
- Coordinate work with other coastal engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline and with support services staff.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to solve complex problems.
- Performs project design; coordinates field data collection plans; participates in production of plans and specifications; develops and evaluates plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most desirable solution; analysis technical problems, asses feasibility and devises new approaches and alternative solutions; coordinates work with project manager and guides junior staff and technical personnel; responsible for maintaining quality standards and quality control; oversees and coordinates the construction phase of projects.
- Plans, schedules, conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
- Performs preliminary engineering design and/or reviews the design and drafting work of junior engineers, designers or CAD technicians.
- Communicate effectively and have good writing skills
- Conducts or oversees personnel involved in engineering investigations and planning work.
- Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff.
- Plans, schedules, and conducts or coordinates construction services on projects of moderate scope.
- May occasionally assist in the management of projects.
- May perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Ocean or Coastal Engineering, or closely related field.
- This level may be achieved by Engineers with 2 years’ experience since B.S. or 1 years since M.S.
- Typical incumbent has 3 to 7 years’ experience implementing dredging and marine construction projects since Bachelor’s degree.
- E.I. or EIT preferred. Ability to obtain PE within 2 years of hire.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and Hypack survey software is preferred.
- Experience with a variety of coastal project types is a plus.
