- Teaching group piano classes for varying ages and levels throughout the school year and summer.
- Creating piano curriculum for growth and success of a conservatory piano.
- Serving as rehearsal and performance accompanist for music ensembles, including choral and instrumental, as well as for solo recitals and music department auditions.
- Collaborating with music department staff to recruit students and build programs, particularly the class piano program and piano ensembles.
- Teaching classes in areas of expertise, as assigned (may include collaborative piano, piano pedagogy, music theory, etc.).
- Teaching summer camps in music, particularly focusing on the creation and growth of a piano summer camp or intensive.
- Creating and coordinating workshops, masterclasses, performances, and events for opportunities within the piano student body.
- Coordinating piano instruction and curriculum within the music department and with adjunct staff.
- Participating in Educational Outreach classes and run-out performances, as needed.
- Attends and facilitates (when requested) mandatory teacher training and facility meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Vice President of Education & Community Engagement.
- This position supervises adjunct instructors and our summer piano intern.
- Highly skilled performer in multiple musical styles on piano including classical, popular, and musical theater repertoire. Piano Pedagogy background helpful.
- Ability to sight read on piano.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and a willingness to collaborate across departments.
- Collaborative teaming skills with children, parents, educators, administrators, and artists.
- Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of multimedia software such as Q-Lab helpful.
- Bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis in piano, collaborative piano, music education, or another related field. Master's degree or higher preferred.
- Significant documented experience as both instructor of piano and collaborative pianist.
- Significant experience in music education, documented success teaching in a K-12 environment.
- Experience in curriculum writing helpful.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position and use the telephone. The employee is frequently required to move or remain in one position; reach; and communicate. The employee must have good hearing skills.
- The nature of this job requires the employee to work on-site as a regular work routine.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
