SummaryReports to the Aquatics Manager, Elkhart Health & Aquatics. Responsibilities include developing comprehensive aquatic plan for water chemistry, upkeep and maintenance of pools, equipment and mechanical components at all Beacon Health & Fitness aquatic facilities. Support of the day-to-day operations of Beacon Health & Fitness aquatic facilities and programs. Also responsible for assisting in aquatic facilities budget development and management, aquatic staff management, and aquatic capital projects.MISSION, VALUES and SERVICE GOALS

Leadership Duties:
  • Assist the Aquatics Manager in recruiting, interviewing, and on-boarding new aquatics staff.
  • Report maintenance issues involving facility and exercise equipment in timely manner to the Aquatics Manager.
  • Works in collaboration with other Beacon Health & Fitness locations to carry out the mission and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Works in collaboration with BMG entities (Physical Therapy, Physicians & Other Specialty Groups) as necessary.
  • Enforces all Beacon Health & Fitness rules and regulations, including all emergency procedures.
  • Receives comments and complaints from members and takes appropriate action. Also, provides feedback to Beacon Health & Fitness leadership.
  • Provides input in the development and maintenance of operational/aquatics policies and procedures.
  • Constructs and leads monthly safety trainings in line with practices of the Medical Fitness Association.
  • Monitors Beacon Health & Fitness policies and procedures to uphold the standards of the Medical Fitness Association.
  • Active participation in leadership and aquatic meetings.
  • Maintains professional certifications as appropriate.
  • Provides back-up for Aquatic Staff (instructors, coaches, lifeguards) during coverage shortages and call-offs.
  • Plans, organizes meetings twice per year for all Certified Pool Operators on staff.
  • Assists the Aquatic Manager with comprehensive monthly pool audits.
  • Schedules regular site visits for all four BHF facilities to monitor all pools.
  • Maintains record of inventory for aquatics equipment and supplies and communicates in a timely manner.
  • Maintains records, reports, and files as required by Beacon Health & Fitness policies and procedures.
Supervisory Duties:
  • Has proficient knowledge of all aquatic shifts (open and closing facility according to established procedures) in order to assist in training staff.
  • Monitors aquatic staff performance by reviewing daily shift reports (Opening/Closing Reports and Daily Appointment Reports).
  • Support and assist all BHF programs and activities with their aquatic needs.
  • Coordinate aquatic contractors for regular audits/testing, as well as mechanical repair or replacement.
  • Coordinate in-house Aquatic staff at all facilities with taking pool chemical readings multiple times daily.
  • Coordinates with Aquatics Manager for in-house aquatic staff training on the latest aquatics related research.

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a bachelor's degree in Sports, Fitness, Wellness, Recreation, or Sports Management related field. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification through the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance required. A minimum of three years of related experience in aquatic facility maintenance, operations and programming and a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in aquatic facilities, programs, events, fitness or related fields is preferred. Experience with pool chemistry, pump room mechanical equipment, repair and preventative maintenance of aquatic facilities is required.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in aquatic facility best practices, facility management and event planning.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with key aquatic operation, equipment, water quality testing and maintenance.
  • Understands the structure and organization of aquatic health and safety organizations on the local, state, regional, and national levels.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the BHF daily operations and aquatic programming.
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot water chemistry in all BHF pools.
  • Maintain the safety and cleanliness of the pool and mechanical areas.
  • Organizes and maintains pool records, work activities, work orders/repairs, and other required records and files as required by state and local codes.
  • Demonstrates the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact in a highly effective manner with a diverse group of members, user groups, visitors, volunteer organizations and the community.
  • Demonstrates the skills necessary to develop and maintain positive working relationships, and to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external customers and contact situations.
  • Requires skills in public speaking in the form of staff and/or member training sessions and presentations.
  • Demonstrates experience in overseeing a diverse staff of part-time and full-time associates, including experience in developing, evaluating, implementing and executing staff development and training programs along with fostering a culture of accountability.
  • Requires the ability to work independently and prioritize workload. Also requires analytical, organization and planning skills.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in meet management, timing system, and scoreboard systems hardware and software.
  • Requires an understanding of aquatic facility equipment and building maintenance/repair.
Working Conditions
  • Works in an aquatic's facility environment, which includes slippery surfaces and confined spaces.
  • Requires the ability to work flexible hours, which may vary depending on the needs of the aquatic center, which includes weekend and evening event responsibilities.
Physical Demands
  • Requires the physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position.
