Location: Veterans Hospital, St. Cloud, MinnesotaPosition Type: Full-Time ContractorDuration: 52 WeeksJob Summary: The Physician Assistant (PA) will serve as the Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The MOD will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical services, including patient care, admission and discharge procedures, outpatient care, urgent care, and emergency response within the scope of their practice. The MOD will ensure continuity of care, adherence to certification requirements, and compliance with all applicable regulations.Responsibilities: * Perform Admission History & Physical Examinations.
  • Conduct evening rounds on all inpatient units as necessary.
  • Provide necessary treatment to patients, order special services, and attend to patient needs.
  • Deliver outpatient and urgent care services as required within the scope of practice.
  • Admit patients to observation or regular admission status as appropriate.
  • Enter all patient orders and documentation into the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
  • Write and execute discharge orders.
  • Obtain and document informed consent as needed.
  • Respond to all incidents involving beneficiaries and/or employees, completing necessary forms.
  • Conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations.
  • Implement palliative and end-of-life care, engage in goals of care conversations (GOCC), and complete Life-Sustaining Treatment (LST) Progress Note and Orders, including Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNAR) directives.
  • Manage emergency situations in consultation with the on-call physician.
  • Coordinate patient transfers to other medical facilities when necessary.
  • Serve as the Personnel Health Provider, offering medical emergency treatment for employees, volunteers, and visitors as needed.
  • Grant authorized absences to patients.
  • Perform basic life support, acute allergic reaction treatment, and trauma care in life-threatening situations where a physician is not immediately available.
Qualifications: * Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine as a Physician Assistant in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • National certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Adult Health, Geriatric, Family, or Primary Care.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine or Family Practice for physicians.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Compliance with all continuing education requirements to maintain certification.
  • Ability to provide coverage during scheduled shifts, including weekends, holidays, and additional hours as needed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, or hospitalist services preferred.
