- Must be a graduate of an approved school of respiratory care.
- Must possess current NV state RT license.
- ACLS, PALS and BLS certification required.
- Must be registered or registry eligible or certified in respiratory care.
- May be required to attend and pass Basic EKG class.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience of full-time Respiratory care in a critical care setting.
- Ability to communicate with employees, physicians, patients and administrative staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Knows and follows the indications and contraindications, the policy and procedures in administering therapeutic modalities.
- Responsible for the safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medications.
- Assures proper physician order before administration of medication.
- Discontinues treatment if any adverse or contraindication noted and documents in patient's EMR at time of occurrence as well as notifying the appropriate staff member, i.e., nurse, physician.
- Maintains accurate records, documenting clinical notes in patient's EMR.
- Sets up, monitors, and documents oxygen administration.
- Understands how to use various measuring devices to include1 but not limited to, pulse oximeter, Wrights respirometer, oxygen blenders, carbon monoxide breath test and documents properly in patient's EMR.
- Participates in reporting patient progress, and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift, nursing, and physician. Gives bedside report.
- As member of the "code team" responds to arrest situations. As part of the team may be expected to perform CPR (compression). Must be certified in CPR procedures quarterly.
- Maintains current BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- Assist Physician with intubation and manual ventilation.
- Responsible for the setup, safety checks, monitoring, and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators, CPAP, and BIPAP machines.
- Upon physician's order, sets up parameters, tests equipment, documents patient's tolerance, and settings being monitored in EMR for ventilators, CPAP, and BIPAP machines.
- Performs ventilator/BIPAP/CPAP checks per protocol during assigned shift as documented in patient's EMR.
- Weans ventilator patients per policy and documents in EMR.
- Cuff pressures are to be measured every shift and documented on flow sheet when completed
- Tubing, handheld nebulizers and ambus are changed as per department policy and documented in patient's EMR.
- Performs and documents arterial punctures as ordered by the physician
- Performs all aspects of artificial airway care.
- Assures multidisciplinary charting is meaningful and complete.
- Is prepared and give bedside report.
- Performs 12 lead EKGs.
- Ensures that all EKG's done in this facility are charged and accounted for.
- Responsible for keeping the crash cart in EKG department in order and up to date.
- *(Not for Respiratory Therapist, only EKG techs) Schedules Stress tests in a timely manner, coordinating with nuclear medicine and Physician.
- *(Not for Respiratory Therapist, only EKG techs) Responsible for keeping the equipment working property and notifying the manager & Bio Med tech of any equipment problems or failures.
- Gives minimally one weekend a month (or 2 weekend days) and one winter and summer holiday availability for call.
- Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
- Attends staff meetings according to the department policy.
- Maintains current required license(s) for position.
- Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by department
- Practices within legal boundaries practice and according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain licensure.
- Provides in-service education of clinical staff as assigned.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
- All required safety education programs have been attended.
- Provides complete and accurate responses to safety questions.
- Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
- Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by department standards.
- Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
