MEDICAL OFFICE NURSE - PEDIATRICSGeneral Summary: Responsible for providing professional nursing care for Pediatric patients following established standards and practices. Assists providers and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff, providers and hospital departments.Essential Job Functions*:Provide professional nursing services to patients utilizing all components of the nursing process (assesses, develops, plans, implements and evaluates) in the plan of care. Assists providers with examinations, procedures, tests, and treatments.Educate/instruct patients.Triage/assess/schedule – results and/or patient call backs i.e.: results, instructions, verify conditions.Orders MRI, CT, Bone scans, Lab tests, etc when directed and instructs patients on what to expect during their diagnostic study appointment.Calls specialists to expedite appointments when appropriate, and requested by providers.Assure quality controls preformed as indicated.Assists with medication refills, prior authorizations for medication, review determine eligibility, assist/consult with PT assistance program at SMH.Screens and processes incoming calls for prescription renewal Calls in and/or e-prescribes prescriptions for providers. Verifies that all information is complete and accurate prior to tasking information to provider.Maintains inventory of medical supplies and orders supplies as needed.Performs blood pressure checks, routine vital signs [including pediatrics].Refers patients to appropriate specialists as directed by providerAssists provider with minor office procedures and exams including but not limited to suture/staple removal, bandage changes, administration of immunization, allergy injections, blood sugars, blood draws, HBA1C, rapid streps, protimes, EKG’s, and hemoccults, UA. Follows OSHA guidelines with label, transport and disposal of all laboratory specimens.Prepares electronic chart, collects all ER and radiology notes for provider prior to patient’s arrival when applicable. Obtain and notify provider of all hospital consults, referrals, specialist notes, lab/diagnostic study results, billing sheets, progress notes, etc.Communicate any and all changes, staff/patient problems/concerns to Manager.Stock and update necessary forms for providers including but not limited to: new patient packets, radiology requisitions, lab requests, physical therapy prescriptions, prescription pads as needed.Complete referral letters and send to appropriate providers.Cancels and/or reschedules appointments as necessary.Assist with training of staff, assigns roles and responsibilities.Performs other tasks as assigned by provider or manager.Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.Qualifications:EducationRequired: High School Diploma or GEDNH state licensed LPN or RN.Preferred: RN or BSNWork ExperienceRequired: Medical practice experience.Preferred: Two years working in a Pediatric or Primary Care practice.Licensure/Certifications/RegistrationsRequired: At least a LPN License in the State of NHPreferred: RN license in the state of NHOther Skills/KnowledgeRequired: Computer, customer services, critical thinking.Preferred: Knowledge of medical billing and EMR experience.
