- Assist in development of REDCap database, Identifying/screening research subjects
- Recruiting and maintaining follow-up of research subjects (Explaining and acquiring signatures of subjects for informed consent documents)
- Tracking absent (lost to follow-up) subjects
- Data collection and database entry (including data entry, transcription of qualitative questionnaires and coding of qualitative data)
- Phlebotomy (willing to be trained to do this) for collection of blood
- Observe self-collection of nasal swab for PCR testing
- Processing blood specimens for serum, plasma, or peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
- Document processing steps, including properly labeling all samples
- Maintains reagents, chemicals, and supplies inventory in accordance with department procedures.
- Assists in the orientation and teaching of new trainees and technicians.
- Prepares, submits, and presents written reports of scientific findings in scientific journals and at national meetings.
- Maintains and adheres to established department policies, procedures and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience) required. Master's degree preferred.
- Must have a minimum of two to three years of research experience or experience related to the research study.
- Experience with tissue culture, muscle biology and molecular longevity studies highly desirable but not required.
- Requires the knowledge computer based software and analytical ability to accurately monitor repository inventory.
- Good computer skills, including data entry and use of spreadsheet and database (MS Excel & Access preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal and English verbal and written language skills sufficient to exchange information with research staff, interact with other technicians and prepare written reports.
- Requires safe handling of potentially infectious materials or noxious chemicals, using appropriate hospital, laboratory, and bio-safety precautions.
- Requires the manual/visual dexterity necessary to prepare specimens, prepare solutions, screen specimens and operate a computer software system.
