DescriptionThe utility heavy equipment operator and excavator is semi-skilled in the construction, and repair of underground distribution systems.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Work new construction, maintenance, and repair of de-energized underground distribution systems based off receiving and following directionsProficient operation of heavy equipment – Dump truck, backhoe, trenchers, and mini-excavatorsUnderstand minimum approach distance, soil classifications, excavation, shoring and ladder requirementsUnderstand heavy equipment set up, procedures, underground services, and duct banksPerforms excavations of dirt, rock, concrete, and other materials using hand tools and power equipmentThese duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive and may change to meet the priorities and ongoing needs of the company.Qualifications and Requirements:To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.Ability to read and understand blueprints, work orders, instructions, and proceduresAccurately perform basic math calculations to include addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, and the use of measurementsProficiency in critical thinking, trouble shooting, and problem resolutionAbility to communicate effectively (written, verbal and nonverbal)Requires self-motivation, organization, and prioritization managementProficient knowledge of OSHA standards and guidelinesHigh School Diploma or equivalentTechnical degree, 2-4 years’ field experience, extensive mechanical ability, or a combination of education and/or experienceCDL A (preferred) or the ability to obtainOSHA CertificationsPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb; lifts and carry up to 60 lbs, crawl, kneel, push and reach; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel.Work Environment:In performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
