OverviewTRC is seeking a highly motivated Roadway/Civil Design Engineer for our growing transportation practice in Rancho Cordova, CA. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic to work with other engineers, project managers, and other technical staff assisting with planning, designing, and implementing civil engineering projects, such as the design of roadways. Training opportunities will be provided.This is an entry level position, but experienced candidates are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Under the direction and supervision of a Lead Design Engineer, the Roadway Design Engineer performs activities requiring engineering knowledge and skills for the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, design drawings, written documents, reports, presentations, and other related work for transportation projects.
- Duties include the development, coordination, and review of engineering plans, specifications, estimates and reports, for highway, freeway, and transportation facility projects. Development of plans include producing and reviewing layouts, profiles, typical sections, title sheets, super elevation diagrams, drainage, construction details, grading, utilities, traffic striping, stage construction, detours, and quantity summaries. Provide review of technical studies, reports and packages produced by local agencies, developers, permit applicants and their consultants, for compliance with design standards and engineering principles.
- All design will be done using computer aided drafting programs such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D or Microstation/InRoads/OpenRoads. Designer will create plan sheets and adhere to the Caltrans plans preparation manual or local agency standards for plan production.
- Utilities research, field investigation, coordination, and preparation of utility conflict plans.
- Assist to facilitate, schedule, participate as a team member of Project Development Team, conduct quality control, safety, constructability and value analysis review meetings, review and provide comments on project plans and estimates to assess completeness and to correct errors and deficiencies and to develop or improve the final plans, specifications & estimate (PS&E) product.
- Responsible for making engineering calculations, analyzing situations regarding transportation facilities or system design concepts, applying sound engineering principles. Works in a team or independently to complete assigned engineering tasks for the development of projects or administration of construction projects.
- Perform field reviews, investigations, inspections and prepare associated reports, diaries, and documentation.
- Perform miscellaneous inspections and nonprofessional engineering duties as assigned on various active projects. Produce meeting minutes, presentations, maintain project files, attend training, perform special reviews, handle telephone inquiries, attend public workshops, develop other staff, attend staff meetings, and interpret new requirements.
- Be involved in all project aspects including design/study development and site/field visits during design and construction.
- Efficiently produce quality outputs while meeting budget and schedules on multiple concurrent projects.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients, and public agencies.
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
- Some experience in highway, roadway and drainage design preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Experience using computer assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering and design documents (examples include software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, InRoads, OpenRoads and GIS).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic.
- Must be flexible, well organized, accountable, and dependable.
- Most importantly must be a team player, ability to work independently and as an integral part of a project team.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification
- CA-Licensed Professional Engineer
