We are presently seeking highly motivated, organized, and professional applicants for a legal assistant with the Water & Natural Resources Division. The primary role of this position is to provide legal support for attorneys representing the State of Wyoming in energy and natural resource litigation, as well as attorneys representing the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.Responsibilities of this position are those typical of a litigation paralegal, including legal research, drafting and editing legal documents and correspondence, maintaining case files and records, and assisting with discovery. Other responsibilities include assistance with case development, investigation, client contact, and assisting attorneys at trial. The paralegal hired for this challenging position will be expected to handle a wide array of tasks for multiple attorneys with strict internal and external deadlines.

  • Legal research as requested by the attorneys.
  • Drafting, revising, proofreading, and editing legal documents and correspondence.
  • Case opening and closing.
  • Assisting in scheduling and preparation for depositions.
  • Assisting with discovery requests and responses.
  • Maintaining case files and calendar.
  • Preparing for and assisting attorneys at trial.
  • Consistently demonstrate analytical ability, administrative skills, ingenuity, and independent judgment.
QualificationsPREFERENCES:An Associate or Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies, paralegal certificate, or equivalent prior litigation paralegal work experience is preferred.KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the use of legal reference material and legal research.
  • Knowledge of government and legislative processes.
  • Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes and agency mission goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Reading, analyzing, and organizing moderately complex legal material including court cases and opinions.
  • Ability to reason logically and analyze situations accurately and recommend an effective course of action.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently, accurately, independently, and in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to anticipate, plan for and meet case deadlines.
  • Ability to work and communicate cooperatively with all levels of government personnel and the general public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Paralegal/Legal Studies)Experience:0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support SpecialistOREducation & Experience Substitution:3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Paralegal /Legal Studies) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Legal Support SpecialistCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:OR a National Association of Legal Assistants certificate as a CLA or ALS (Certified Legal Assistant) or CP (Certified Paralegal) or National Federation of Paralegal Association PACE Registered ParalegalNecessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This position performs desk work.
