The candidate will report to a Regional Service Lead or Team Lead and work cross functionally with a team of Controls Engineers as well as Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, Controls and Robotic Technicians to assemble, test, commission, and support production equipment both on company and customer sites.Major Responsibilities:
- Write and debug Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code in accordance with programmer work instructions or customer requirements.
- Performs corrective maintenance, non-routine repair, modification, troubleshooting, calibration, of PLC/HMI code and/or system components.
- Commission Industrial Networks and establish stable communication between PLCs and their network components, switches, and ancillary devices.
- Check function of all switches on cylinders, actuators, and other devices to verify functionality.
- Confirm sequence and operation of machines prior to programming with mechanical technician or engineering.
- Utilizes various schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, and other resources.
- Maintains records of work performed; assists in providing content for machine manuals and similar documentation for the installation, maintenance, calibrating, removal and modification of electronic systems and equipment.
- Perform field service work as required for installation, modification, and service of systems.
- Advises and assists Team Leads, management, and others on operating problems involving automation systems and provides suggested remedies.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively including overnight stays primarily within the U.S.
- Ability to work extended shift durations including non-day shift and/or weekend assignments.
- Robot Programming and troubleshooting is a plus.
- High school diploma.
- Associate/Bachelors degree in a controls related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent) preferred.
- Three to seven years’ experience in PLC and HMI programming and configuration along with troubleshooting and solving software/hardware issues in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to technically lead / supervise up to 2 associate technicians.
- Work in compliance with divisional health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.
- Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
- Report defect in any equipment or protective device.
- Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
- Attend all required health, safety, and environmental training.
- Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.
- Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.
- Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running, or rough and boisterous conduct.
