The Animal Medical Center of Seattle, WA is hiring a full- time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and ICU team! We are offering up to a $3,000 Hiring Bonus for Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Experienced Veterinary Assistants!
Veterinary technicians at AMCS provide effective and timely support for the staff veterinarians and works closely with clients, patients, and staff members. Technicians are responsible for providing the highest quality nursing care as directed by the staff veterinarians. Technicians also provide excellent customer service including greeting and assisting clients who seek medical services, gathering patient information and keeping clients up to date on their pet’s status.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Restrains and lifts patients
  • Performs and assists in patient non-DVM procedures in the areas of cardiology, surgery, radiology, critical care and emergency medicine, to include anesthesia
  • Takes steps to maintain patient comfort through a clean and comfortable environment
  • Treats animals kindly and ensures that they are clean before discharge
  • Anticipates patient discomfort and stress and takes all necessary precautions to ensure patient is as comfortable as possible.
  • Immediately alerts staff DVM to a change in patient condition
  • Correctly calculates drug dosages and administers drugs as directed by staff DVM
  • Answers technical calls of clients/perspective clients as required and advises callers and clients on the cost of examination, financial policies and driving directions
  • Helps keep clients up to date on their pets status
  • Provides outstanding customer service when triaging, gathering patient information and relevant history
  • Administers high quality patient care through timely monitoring; correctly performs treatments as directed by staff DVM
  • Enters client charges as required during the course of treatments/procedures
  • Takes radiographs as requested by attending DVM; complies with state and hospital regulations regarding radiology safety
  • Performs non-subjective laboratory work when required; proficient in the use of laboratory equipment including (but not limited to): Catalyst, ProCyte, iSTAT, SCA2000
  • Performs subjective laboratory work including (but not limited to) CBC differentials, cross matching, urinalysis and fecal exams and cytologies.
  • Helps maintain a clean and fully stocked working environment for the veterinary team
  • Attend CE courses/webinars or hands-on training as requested by the Training Specialist or Manager
  • Regularly attend staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with Shift Lead and ER/ICU
  • Share holiday coverage and on call schedule
  • Report any concerns, problems or staffing problems to Shift Lead and ER/ICU Manager
  • Complete Level 1 soft and technical skills within 90 days of being hired
Secondary Functions:
  • Assists in answering telephones if needed. Employs professional phone etiquette and takes accurate and complete messages for hospital staff.
  • When required, cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments in a timely fashion. Reports broken or dull instruments to the Facilities Manager
  • When required, assists in equipment maintenance and regular quality control procedures. Trouble shoots equipment failure and reports issues to the Inventory Specialist.
  • When required to check in patients, ensure accurate client information is gathered and entered into the system
  • When required to check out patients, ensure accurate and efficient cash and credit handling
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Working knowledge and skill required to nurse critically ill and emergency patients
  • Ability to problem solve using common sense and the ability to make decisions in order to follow through on DVM orders
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and the ability to learn new veterinary based software applications
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful work environment. Must be able to maintain professionalism and composure at all times.
  • Able to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, clients and the public in a professional manner
  • Able to handle difficult clients
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language
Education and Experience:
  • AA degree or BA/BS degree from an accredited veterinary technician program plus a minimum of two years in critical care veterinary medicine or emergency veterinary medicine
  • Candidate must be a licensed technician, or eligible to licensed, in the state of Washington
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills are required.
Schedule:
  • Choose between working a 4/10 schedule (Mon-Thurs, 10p-8a or Sun-Wed 4p-2a) or 3/12's (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 8p-8a)!

Compensation:
  • Compensation is based on experience and skill level. $30 – 40/hr. Veterinary Technician Specialists starting at $40/hr.

Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position.
