- Plan and manage all aspects of small to medium single-discipline planning projects or large, routine projects
- Independently coordinate work of engineers and balance planning team throughout entire project's development
- Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
- Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
- Conduct work sessions for design development and contract document in conjunction with other staff
- Coordinate workload throughout entire project development, and ensure completion of documents on schedule
- Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to schedule
- Work with Business/Accounting Manager or Project Controller and Department Manager for project reviews and with company management as needed
- Work as part of a team and independently in evaluating and applying Traffic Engineering principles,
- standards, and criteria
- Interact directly with clients at project meetings and ensure that all client project designs meet engineering standards
- Interact directly with other disciplines such as roadway, drainage, structures, geotechnical, water, and environment to coordinate design
- Lead the development of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) packages based upon agency
- standards and specifications for traffic signal and pedestrian crossing control system design, ITS, roadway lighting, Signing and Pavement Marking, and MOT design.
- Perform traffic operational analysis including traffic projections, analysis, and simulation using Synchro/SimTraffic, TranSync, HCS, and VISSIM
- Analyze crash data to identify crash patterns and probable causes, develop collision and condition diagrams. Conduct predictive safety analysis.
- Perform photometric analysis using AGi32 or Visual lighting
- Participate in transportation planning assignments, corridor studies, safety studies, and IAJR reports
- Prepare technical memorandums and papers for clients and/or internal distribution
- Conduct field reviews and prepare reports
- Represent HDR at conferences and professional organizations
- Mentor entry level engineers
- Perform emerging technology testing, develop design of experiments, data collections, and report preparation
- Perform other duties as needed for the success of the desert southwest traffic business class #LI-JF1
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 5+ years in traffic project management experience
- PE license in NM or obtain within 6 months of hire
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Experience in traffic operational analysis including traffic projections, analysis, and simulation using Synchro/ SimTraffic, HCS, and VISSIM
- Knowledge of safety analysis using HSM
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Master's degree preferred
- 8+ years related or equivalent experience including traffic project management experience
- PTOE or PTP or RSP certifications preferred
