- Play an impactful role in all matters relating to intellectual property - including continued development of Fivetran's global IP portfolio, trademark and copyright filings, IP enforcement, IP harvesting and coordination with outside counsel for patent prosecution.
- Rely on an inquisitive mindset to work cross-functionally across Fivetran teams to provide legal counsel and support related to the IP aspects of product development, strategic partnerships, and marketing.
- Collaborate with privacy, compliance, commercial, corporate, and employment legal stakeholders to surface, communicate, and drive resolution around concerns related to Fivetran Products.
- Stay updated on relevant law, regulations and evolving developments in the law, providing legal advice to the business and other attorneys and recommending policy and/or process changes as needed.
- Creatively solve problems, be strategic, and enable the business to take calculated and informed risks by being able to hear and answer questions that aren't asked and translate technical concerns into answers understandable to non-technical lawyers.
- Work to optimize and scale processes and enablement materials for the areas and teams we counsel.
- Demonstrate expertise in product counseling, compliance laws, and technology transactions with the capacity to expand your legal and business knowledge.
- Perform other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned.
- 3-5 years combined experience in-house and/or at a law firm counseling SaaS companies on product and/or intellectual property. Enterprise level experience preferred, patent prosecution and/or IP litigation experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to clearly articulate and defend risk analysis; critically examine business practices to ensure they are aligned with legal requirements; break down legal concepts into plain language for non-lawyers; provide advice regarding business practice risk.
- Successful candidate is a proven team player and consensus builder that takes a business approach to law.
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, follow through and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates a creative mindset and an ability to find solutions where others see barriers.
- Success requires self-motivation, inquisitiveness, confidence, diligence and a passion to learn about new technologies and to pave ways in unchartered territories.
- Member of a state bar/ active license to practice law required
- IP and trademark experience with a service-oriented mindset and curiosity to find ways to improve the organization
