The Opus College of Engineering at Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to teach Introduction to Infrastructure (CEEN 1200) in the fall 2024 semester from approximately August 15, 2024 to December 15, 2024. The class is 3 cr. hrs. and the Adjunct Instructor will teach two identical sections; Section 1 meets T, Th at 8:00 am to 9:15 am, and Section 2 that meets T, Th from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. The course provides an introduction to Civil, Construction, and Environmental engineering with an emphasis on civilian infrastructure and the built environment. Course subjects include Introduction to the Natural Environment and Environmental Infrastructure; Structural Infrastructure and Construction; Transportation Infrastructure; Civil Engineering History and Heritage and Civil Infrastructure Systems. The class includes a discussion of planning and energy, sustainability, environmental, economic, ethical, and security considerations about civilian infrastructure as well as an introduction to analysis and design as they pertain to infrastructure and the built environment. The Adjunct Instructor will also coordinate guest lectures by other faculty members with expertise in the various sub-disciplines of civil engineering (environmental, water resources, construction, structural, and transportation engineering).
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide lectures and other delivery of course content, develop and assign homework, tests and other items as needed, grade assignments, assign midterm and final class grades, gather and report student performance data for program assessment, and provide at least four hours of office-hour time per week to answer student questions.
Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesMasters Degree preferred or substantial progress toward the terminal degree.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesApplicants must have previous academic and/or professional experience in civil engineering, construction engineering, architectural engineering and/or a related field. Either an MS in engineering or a related field or at least 5 years of professional, technical experience in civil infrastructure design or construction is required.A Ph.D. in engineering is highly preferred. Past experience teaching engineering courses and a professional engineer (PE) license are preferred.
