Laboratory Regional Chemist – Latin AmericaCorporate Job TitleLaboratory Regional Chemist – Latin AmericaReporting RelationshipsQA DirectorPosition SummaryThe primary responsibility of this position is to provide technical and quality assurance support to Latin American branches and to ensure that laboratory services are provided in accordance with local regulations, accreditation/certification requirements and industry standards while being performed in a safe, legal, ethical, competent, and cost-effective manner. Additionally, this position will drive the integration of the corporate quality management system and related processes and push continuous improvement at the operating level through the elimination of waste, empowerment of personnel, implementation of new technology, etc. This position is a high influencing role requires extensive travel and may include up to 50% of the year providing onsite hands-on support including but not limited to test method setup and development, training and instrument maintenance.Minimum Requirements
  • Requires a B.S./B.A. (preferable Science Degree) or a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in quality, customer satisfaction, technical training and technical support.
  • Deep understanding of the testing, inspection and certification (TIC) industry.
  • Ability to work independently and self-develop as necessary to achieve objectives.
  • Must have technical and theoretical knowledge of laboratory operations.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish. Ability to read, speak, and translate from English to Spanish and vice versa.
  • Strong understanding of Excel with experience in basic laboratory firmware and software.
  • Must possess strong inter-personal skills including the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to develop focused and simple to communicate/implement plan(s)
  • Ability to influence others to achieve planned improvements and strategic goals and influence cross functional relationships.
  • Ability to set and achieve own work priorities to meet key performance objective.
Principal Duties, Responsibilities and Authorities
  • Develop a best-in-class implementation plan for technical and quality assurance excellence.
  • Coordinate and provide critical support to business systems including but not limited to POLARIS, ASTM PTP, etc.
  • Identify and assess laboratory practices and issues and identify best practices.
  • Identify and provide requirements for technical support in areas such as local government and industry regulatory framework and other corporate managed technical support areas.
  • Monitor and drive ILCP proficiency testing improvement in Latin American laboratories with clear targets and appropriate laboratory participation.
  • Provide any technical support required for internal and external customers.
  • Provide expert technical advice on analysis and related activities to the organization and support the core activities / client conversations as required.
  • If needed, assist in the development of a mandatory training & competency framework for Latin American laboratory personnel.
  • Be involved in providing appropriate industry forum representation in each market locality.
  • Be actively involved in supporting new and expanding laboratory projects.
  • Provides recommendations and solutions that advances Latin America business interest and ensure customer satisfaction with company performance related to the quality system.
  • Liaise with and mentor Latin America personnel and ensures that the quality assurance program is understood, implemented and maintained at all levels within Latin America.
  • Ensures that Latin America provides products and services that meet the policies and procedure defined within the quality assurance program.
  • Ensures that the appropriate responses to client complaints regarding the quality management system are initiated and concluded.
  • Provides information and/or training to all personnel regarding local regulatory, accreditation/certification and industry compliance.
  • Conducts and/or ensures internal audits are conducted per procedures and schedules.
  • Attends external audits by customers, government agencies or other interested parties.
  • Documents findings and provides recommendations for non-conformances detected during internal and external audits.
  • Provide input regarding the continual improvement of the quality system consistent with local regulations, accreditation/certification requirements and industry standards.
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Labs and the QA Director to identify root causes of technical and quality issues and uses good judgment to troubleshoot initiate, recommend, and/or implement timely solutions to the problems.
  • Prepares periodic technical and quality KPI reports to the Director of Labs and QA Director.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • This position will be in an office setting, but field work may be required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up-to-50 pounds, push & pull, reach overhead, stoop & squat, and wear protective equipment if required.
