- Developing and proposes plans for the Engineering Department of the Salisbury site which are in line with the BU strategy. Develops operational action plans and implements controls which assure targets are met and business opportunities are identified, assessed and implemented within the framework of the global strategy of the business.
- Overseeing Salisbury Engineering to realize targets for capital spending, product quality and production along with targets for the financial performance of the site (EVA, FMC, NC), both short and long term. Directs the efforts of the Plant Project Engineers in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Developing strategy and action plans for technological and technical development of processes and assures plans are implemented and controlled as approved.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Akzo Nobel policy and rules of conduct concerning safety, health, environmental, spending and regulatory affairs.
- Safety, Health, and Environment : Serves as Site Responsible Engineer.
- PSM Champion for Process Hazard Analysis, Pre-Startup Safety Review, Management of Change, maintaining the Risk Matrix, Process Safety Information for Asset Register, and Major Hazard and Catastrophic Scenarios (Shared with Technical Manager)
- Ensures safety of all employees, contractors, visitors and community members. Active member of the Site Leadership Team.
- Provides technical advice in the event of any incidents and participate in Incident Investigation Teams as requested.
- Participates in Planning and Administration of Plant's IH Program as it applies to area of responsibility.
- Participates in ergonomic review of assigned job functions and make recommendations for improvements.
- Quality : Ensures that new installations and technical process engineering changes will not affect quality of product.
- Maintenance : Provides technical support to maintenance and aids in the interface between maintenance and operations.
- Provides technical support and assists maintenance personnel in planning and thinking through their tasks.
- Assist the Maintenance Manager as needed in the planning and execution of scheduled plant maintenance shutdowns.
- Operational Support : Provides engineering and troubleshooting support for the operation, plant equipment and processes, and utilities equipment.
- Participates in root cause problem solving as necessary.
- Resolves maintenance, electrical and instrument issues as requested by the Production Manager or designee.
- Develops and maintains a plan to provide 24 hour DCS support for the plant.
- Capital Projects : Manages the Plant's Capital budget, prioritizes and schedules projects, and handles SAP capital accounting.
- Identifies projects, prepares cost estimates and ARs, manages project implementations (i.e. construction, contractors, specifies equipment, procurement, start-up etc.).
- Mechanical Integrity : Supports site's Mechanical Integrity (MI) program and works closely with Maintenance and Safety functions to ensure that proper MI checks are being conducted in a timely fashion and that the program meets all regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain plant drawings (P&IDs, ISO's, PFD's).
- Maintain equipment safety information and specifications, testing and inspection plans, engineering standards, etc. for PSM and RMP covered equipment, including REGEGAPS.
- Management of Change : Serves as the MOC Coordinator to ensure all MOCs have the appropriate evaluation and risk assessment prior to implementation
- Performs design reviews, pre start-up safety reviews, and initiates MOC's as needed.
- Process Hazard Analysis: Maintains PHA schedule and performs PHA's on new and existing equipment and processes as required by regulation.
- Process Automation : Maintains and troubleshoots DeltaV DCS control systems (i.e., develops control schemes, adds new instrumentation, makes changes to existing systems as needed).
- Works with Operations to develop Automation Strategy and Plan going forward for Site.
- Personnel Management : Manages Engineering Department in a manner that promotes interdepartmental cooperation, and ensures that department goals are met.
- Develops Project Engineers in all areas of discipline in regard to engineering. Completes P&DD activities in a timely fashion.
- Coaching, Teaching and Mentoring : Attends at least one seminar per year that will improve some area of technical expertise, leadership or teaching ability.
- Works with Supervisors and operators to improve their understanding of processes and equipment.
- Miscellaneous : Breaks down barriers or silos to insure that cross-functional plant teams and plant areas work together in the best interest of the business.
- Other duties and assignments as required or requested by the Site Manager
- Participate in HSES activities directed by management/supervision or as indicated in the HSES Annual Site Plan.
- Team members should operate under any applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) when performing functions within their role.
- B.S. Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Chemical.
- 6-8 years related experience.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Prior experience with Delta V and SAP a plus.
