If you are interested in contributing to the largest Youth focused non-profit in the country, please read on!Lifeguard Salary: $11.50 to $15.00 per hourLifeguard Hours: (Full-Time)Lifeguard Responsibilities:
  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area
  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
  • Accurately completes related reports as required
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area including the sauna, whirlpool, and steam room
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed reporting any concerns to the Aquatics Director
  • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving
  • Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Lifeguard Qualifications:
  • Minimum age of eighteen (18)
  • Lifeguard Certification
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen, ARC Lifeguard or equivalent
  • Ability to maintain a level of physical and mental readiness consistently over the entire guard shift
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • Child Abuse Training must be completed within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Additional training requirements
  • Familiarity with personal computers helpful
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Valid and current driver's license recommended but not required
  • Able to effectively communicate and build relationships with Y staff, members, and vendors
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good customer service skills, high ethical standards, an appropriate professional image, and a team player
  • Must possess sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment skills, and a positive attitude
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required
