This role will contribute to the development of digital dental processes used in the development of prosthetic devices. The role collaborates with all internal R&D disciplines as well as with external partners.Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with our Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, Technology Transfers, Software and hardware teams, Manufacturing, and other cross functional teams to support various project workstreams.
  • Complete independent projects involving aligner prototyping and testing and preparing for regulatory submissions.
  • Create prototype designs, run Verification and Validation efforts, and assist with manufacturing implementation. Conduct hands-on experiments by designing, fabricating, testing, and evaluating novel concepts.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Medical Devices, Biocompatibility, cellular interactions, and efficacy of Oral health products. Conduct biological, mechanical and/or physical property evaluation and testing of dental materials and biocompatibility testing to generate documentation to support and substantiate new products and / or process improvements.
  • Apply personal scientific knowledge/lead team efforts to design and develop material and processing solutions that meet product design requirements and ensure marketplace success.
  • Develop and communicate material and design specifications to relevant design partners and stakeholders.
  • Complete all necessary training on pertinent Global, Pillar and Departmental procedures and maintain a Training Log documenting successful completion of each procedure. In addition, the associate must apply the learnings to ensure high quality products.
  • Work practices and procedures meet Dentsply Sirona's Standard Operating Procedures for design, commercialization, and manufacture of medical devices.
  • Provide verbal and written reports of activities to senior management.
  • Conduct literature / web-based searches to assist in designing experiments, developing test methods, and finding sources for experimental materials.
  • Scheduling, planning, conducting, and directing research aimed at developing aligners, designs and processes through creative research.
  • Work with researchers, scientists, systems, software and hardware engineers and external partners in system integration and validation efforts.
  • Work with outside consultants, vendors and suppliers to communicate design specs and drive on-time delivery of final processes.
  • Project management responsibilities include contributing to project plans to assure program progress and the application of sound principles and evaluation procedures are maintained.
  • Participate in writing research proposals, reports, patent applications, presentations, and publications.

Required Background and Experience:
  • Education:
  • Master's preferred with a degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, polymer science, or a related discipline; Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, polymer science, or a related discipline required for consideration.
  • Years and Type of Experience:
  • More than 2 years related experience and/or training with a proven track-record of accomplishments in industry or academic setting.
  • Global experience in a regulated industry, preferably medical devices would be a great asset.
  • Software and Data Science experience a plus
  • Oral health experience a plus.
  • Key Required Skills, Knowledge, and Capabilities:
  • MATERIAL - Knowledge on physical, chemical, biological properties, and applications of polymer and other biomaterials used for medical devices.
  • TEST SKILLS - Ability to create test method, protocol, and perform biomechanical tests, and summarize the test results in test report.
  • MS OFFICE SKILLS - Ability to use MS word, Excel for creating technical analysis and report.
  • SOFTWARE SKILLS - Ability to use programming languages (python), Minitab and other statistic tools.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquires or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original, innovative techniques and styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentation on complex topics.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to apply advanced mathematical and statistical concepts.
  • REASONING ABILITY - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of data.
  • CAD and FEA SKILLS- Ability to use SolidWorks, Pro/E Creo, and ANSYS, Abaqus, Marc, or other FEA tools.
