FUEL brings together a growing team of universities, community and technical colleges, state agencies, and industry and capital partners led by LSU.
The Director of Workforce Development will be responsible for working closely with the FUEL Executive Director, Industry Members, Universities, and community stakeholders to promote, develop, design, implement, and monitor all Workforce Development activities under the project. This position will supervise and manage all industry directed Workforce Development projects including a STEM k-12 network of educators and partners across the FUEL Region, a nested mentor program for college, high school, and middle school students to encourage STEM education, a STEM train-the-trainer program to help grow the STEM k-12 workforce in the FUEL Region, and identify workforce needs and deploy funds to support the creation of new educational courses to address gaps based on industry workforce needs at the technical and professional education levels.Job Responsibilities:Relationship Management: Serve as the FUEL Director of Workforce Development. This position will require engagement with the 50+ partner organizations, NSF, the Executive Director, the Workforce Development Subcommittee, and other stakeholders. FUEL is structured to bring representation from various stakeholders with the vision of aligning workforce needs and capabilities with special emphasis on energy transition issues impacting the Region of Service, Louisiana. The Director will serve as a liaison across FUEL industry partners to identify, develop, and solicit Workforce Development project needs. This position will be responsible for ensuring all Workforce Development reporting obligations are satisfied for NSF, LED, and other partners. (20%)FUEL New Course Fund: The Director will be responsible for developing, establishing, and implementing all Workforce Development New Courses. These New Courses will range in scope and cost and will be solicited and developed with industry partners across the Region based on market needs. Once defined, the Director will develop and implement an RFP process to deploy across the Region in a fair and inclusive manner. This position will manage external evaluators to evaluate, score, and New Course proposals to provide guidance and feedback to the Workforce Development Governance Subcommittee, which will make the final funding decisions under the direction of the Director of Workforce Development. (20%)Project Management: The Director will work directly with the Workforce Development Subcommittee to propose, develop, establish, and implement appropriate policies and procedures to deploy all FUEL project deliverables and programming associated with the Workforce Development activities of the FUEL engine. The Director will be responsible for convening quarterly meetings with the Workforce Development Subcommittee as well as maintaining regular communication with the Subcommittee between convenings. The ultimate goal for all Workforce Development activity is to identify, develop, and implement a sustainable model for FUEL Workforce Development across the Region. (15%)FUEL STEM Network: The Director will be responsible for developing, establishing, engaging, and managing, a Workforce Development network across the FUEL region to help engage all stakeholders. The FUEL Science, Technology, and Research (STAR) Workforce Development Network will create world-leading mechanisms to identify and grow a k-12 network of educators aligned with industry-specific use cases and engage and integrate educators with industry partners to ensure strong collaboration throughout the Region in k-12 STEM-focused initiatives. (10%)FUEL Nested Mentoring Program: The Director will be responsible for developing, establishing, engaging, and implementing a Nested Mentor Program for university, college, high school, and middle school students to encourage STEM education across the Region. The Director will engage with universities and colleges to identify potential students for mentor-mentee relationships. The Director will engage MS and HS teachers, administrators, and state-wide educational organizations to identify students for the mentor-mentee relationship. The Director will interface with the LA-STEM initiative under the Board of Regents as well as with other statewide educational partners to encourage and develop STEM pathways for k-12 students. (10%)FUEL Train-the-trainer Program: The Director will be responsible to developing, establishing, engaging, and implementing a training program for teachers in k-12 space to train STEM trainers within schools and school districts with the goal of establishing a mechanism to train other teachers in the schools and districts how to better implement STEM education across the Region. The Director will engage middle school and high school administrators as well as state-wide educational organizations to identify teachers and administrators to participate in the FUEL Train-the-Trainer Program. (10%)Grant and Budget Management: The Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the workforce development budget under the leadership of the Executive Director. Budgets will be established on an annual basis in support of all workforce development activities in alignment with need, scope, and project requirements. Management of the workforce development portion of FUEL, including tracking, budgeting, documenting, and reporting on all workforce development key metrics. Provide key programmatic and administrative support, including scheduling meetings, maintaining records, tracking outputs and outcomes, and providing program oversight. (10%)Other duties as assigned by the FUEL Executive Director. (5%)Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, education, or related field and 7 years experience; must have valid driver's license.Proven track record of relationship-building
Strong, demonstrable track record of project management and program delivery
Experience working in or adjacent to Institutions of Higher EducationPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in science, engineering, education, or related field;MS, MBA, or an advanced degree related to the education or energy field
Grant writing and management experience
