- Must have a valid FL DL and access to a personal vehicle for travel throughout Orange County.
- Willing to be assigned to various sites in Orange County.
- Ability to bend, kneel, use fine motor skills, lift, and carry a maximum of 25 pounds.
- Willing to work with clients in an infectious disease clinic.
- Emergency Duty.
- At least one year of experience working in a public health environment.
- Experience giving adult and children's vaccinations.
- At least one year of experience working as a Registered Nurse
- Nurse shall be responsible and accountable for making decisions that are based upon the individual's educational preparation, scope of practice and experience in nursing.
- Performs basic health assessment/evaluation of clients who present to the DOH clinic or DOH outreach location with health care needs including administration of medication(s)/treatment(s) and monitoring any adverse reactions within state law and board policies. Reports medical errors as appropriate.
- Uses current approved intervention/protocol(s) to provide care based on policies, protocols, procedures, and practitioner (physician) order(s).
- Provides nursing assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and referral activities for clients with acute/chronic health problems including initiating emergency procedures as indicated in emergent situations. In addition, provides health education supporting the promotion of wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness.
- Documents all services provided to clients in appropriate DOH-provided format using acceptable nursing terminology on the appropriate DOH form(s) and/or computer program and/or electronic health records system.
- Assumes responsibility for appropriate identification of developmental disparities, high risk health patterns, behaviors and/or concerns providing nursing care including proper referrals and resources for clients. Nurse will contact and collaborate with supervising RN as needed for patient care.
- Is knowledgeable of public health nursing and the state rules and regulations relating to Department of Health (DOH).
- Provides consultation and training with health department staff, internal and external partners, and other agencies regarding client's needs as appropriate.
- Monitors client health records, conditions, physicals, and immunizations to assure that clients' needs have been met. Performs chart reviews for chronic illnesses, health conditions and other health-related documentation.
- Is responsible for the collection and maintenance of statistical data appropriate to support the objectives set forth by the DOH. Plan and the completion of reports as requested by the DOH.
- Supports, coordinates, and facilitates health screenings of clients per relevant local, state, and federal mandates. Documents and refers appropriately with timely follow-up.
- Identifies and reports any communicable disease or other conditions affecting the population to appropriate DOH programs.
- Ability to demonstrate effective skills of listening, speaking, and writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, internal and external partners, and outside agencies. Works with health officer and colleagues to improve health services. Assist staff with completion of incident/accident reports, where necessary.
- Serve as a health liaison between health department and general public. Counsel clients concerning health conditions/problems as needed.
- Prepares and maintains the clinic area for use assuring safety, orderliness, and cleanliness. Monitors and budgets clinic supplies and maintains medical equipment.
- Coordinate, perform, document and report results required for special clinics, i.e. Florida Shots, HMS, Merlin, etc.
- In the event the Nurse elects to be reimbursed for travel, they will be responsible for initiating and entering all information into the SMTS system accurately and on time.
- Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purposes of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access, for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy or electronic format. Position requires ability to type 30 or better words a minute and interpret on a personal computer. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for this position: Knowledge of multiple computer systems such as HMS, Florida Shots, Word, EXCEL, Outlook, etc.
- Direct the work of the health technician or LPN assigned to clinic.
- Attend all staff meetings and workshops as appropriate.
- Performs all other related duties as requested.
- Knowledge of basic biology, physiology, anatomy, pharmacology principles and practices.
- Skill to conduct basic nursing practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff and the community.

- Basic computer skills, and skill to use office equipment and electronic health record programs, including Windows, Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, immunization registry.
- Skill to complete health screenings as part of a physical assessment.
- Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to staff and the community.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to document work products.
- Knowledge of current practice guidelines, applicable statutes and regulations affecting public health practice, compliance with confidentiality laws and policies.
