Job Title: Laboratory Animal Technician I - Colony ManagementDivision: Center for Comparative MedicineWork Arrangement: Onsite onlyLocation: Houston, TXSalary Range : $28,710 - $38,830FLSA Status: NonexemptSummaryThe Center for Comparative Medicine provides for the care, health and well-being of all research animals used in the pursuit of scientific achievement and excellence at Baylor College of Medicine. CCM provides the highest quality veterinary and animal care and acts as a resource for the faculty on veterinary and scientific issues relating to the use of laboratory animals. Under general supervision, provides routine care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner.Job Duties
  • Feeds and waters animals.
  • Changes animal caging as scheduled, sanitizing rooms, equipment and hallways.
  • Conducts daily animal health checks.
  • Receives animals into and transfers animals out of facility, and maintains detailed accurate records.
  • Ensures that activities are in compliance with AAALAC standards.
  • Applies permanent identification devices, collects tissue biopsies.
  • Establishes breeding cages and weans juveniles.
  • Receives, processes and fulfills internal purchase order requests.
  • Detailed record keeping and log documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. email, Excel, Word).
