SummaryThe Process Engineer will be part of the extended asset management team supporting the Freeport LNG Asset (Owner). The role will include LNG process engineering work scopes and will need to grow and evolve with the asset with a key focus on support for LNG trains, Project common facilities and utilities.Position Description
  • Support the operations of Freeport LNG.
  • Facility Surveillance: oversee the development / optimization of surveillance plans and execution of engineering monitoring activities (downtime analysis, process bad actors, bottleneck identification, and issue identification) to support the Operator in ensuring maximum facility availability. This will include using sound engineering judgment to analyze the performance of field equipment including piping systems, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, dehydration units and processing equipment such as sulfur recovery systems, water treatment systems, and natural gas liquid recovery systems.
  • Opportunity Generation & Management of Change: develop recommendations to management for initiatives or projects to optimize production, improve reliability, reduce costs and/or prevent future problems. Coordinate concept finalization and scope of work development to hand over to an executing organization with the Operator (Project or Maintenance). Support the relevant function (Operations, Maintenance, etc.) in evaluation of the technical details of the change and completion of required analysis prior to implementation.
  • Provide technical expertise in LNG process design, operations and maintenance.
  • Assist with training other engineers by providing instruction on technologies, engineering calculations, train performance optimization, etc.
  • Support procedure development and training related to projects, temporary or new modes of operation, and compliance.
  • Competent in complex process engineering analysis and design. Capable of assimilating new technologies and methods.
  • Experience with development of process simulations for complex units and other advanced tools for facility process analysis as appropriate.
  • Experience with design and execution of tests in the interest of enhancing production or solving process problems.
  • Develop process basis, preliminary estimates, and schedules for project design scopes.

  • Support internal and external benchmarking activities (including data collection, analysis and reporting)
  • Assure that the design of equipment used in the facility is in accordance with good engineering practices, applicable industry codes / standards and consistent with the company’s business needs.
  • Conduct Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) utilizing What-if and Hazard and Operability Review (HAZOP) methodologies and support for consideration of mitigation plan for each operational risk.
  • Participate on incident investigation teams.
  • Work with FLNG team, to define problems, establish work scopes, prepare task budgets and schedules, plan work, provide technical direction, and report the work status to management.
  • Reinforce safety and environmental awareness through frequent job observations and by interfacing with plant personnel.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives to drive more efficient and effective outcomes for Freeport LNG.
  • Contribute and update risk register and effective prioritization.
  • Work with HQ O&M Engineering department to assure O&M interests are represented and imbed best practices to FLNG.
  • Interact with and support Commercial Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and other departments as required.
  • Provide Service to Asset Management Company which support JERA FLNG Holdings in Technical aspects.
  • Assist Class A Board Managers of Project appointed by JERA. Attend FLNG or its subsidiary Board meeting as an observer.
  • Assist SVP, Freeport LNG Business and Unit members in research and analysis of LNG production project in the US.
  • Assist SVP, Freeport Business for preparation of JERA Americas Holdings Board material and JERA HQ Leadership Panel/Investment Committee.
  • Communicate with JERA HQ and prepare reports to JERA HQ where required.
  • Support and advice junior members in the team.
QualificationsRequired Education and Experience
  • Engineering degree or equivalent, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering preferred, with relevant refinery oil and gas experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or equivalent CEng license is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Process Engineer in the gas industry
  • Experience in all aspects of process engineering from conceptual design, process safety analysis such as HAZOP, economics, detailed engineering, and plant startup and troubleshooting.
  • Commissioning, start-up, and performance testing at project sites is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of key equipment involved in LNG liquefaction facilities.
  • Good understanding of key modeling inputs and outputs including engineering data, operational data, etc and the data interactions across different platforms and tools
  • Good knowledge on process control systems like BPCS, controller tuning
  • Deep knowledge around the utilization of natural gas and pipelines in the United States and economic parameters
  • A good understanding of the integrated gas business and how it works.
