Job Description:REGISTERED STAFF NURSE I JOB SUMMARY The Staff Nurse I is a competent practitioner of nursing care and a registered professional nurse who helps to ensure the mission, vision and values of MWPH. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION He/she works with interdisciplinary team members to achieve patient care goals. He/she complies with all policies, and procedures, providing patient care. Participates in activities for continuing education, professional development and performance improvement. Functions with a focus on patient safety and customer service. May with appropriate competencies and at least two years recent pediatric nursing experience, serve as escort for transport according to policy. May also serve as charge nurse, with one year MWPH experience, and precept new employees. Utilizes the Nursing process to provide high quality patient care to the population served. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Educational Requirements Graduate of a NLN accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred Licensure, Certification and Registration Work Orientation and Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Other Requirements Specific to Assigned Area Current license to practice in the State of Maryland as a Registered Nurse. Current CPR. PEARS recommended. None required. Knowledge of and ability to perform duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Code of Ethics, and the ANA Professional Standards of Practice and Performance Demonstrates excellent customer service skills Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively Critical thinking skills and delegation skills which ensure accountability Computer proficiency Team oriented Ability to position patients, lift 25 pounds, walk, run, sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach, push, pull and demonstrate manual dexterity, mobility, and visual and auditory ability to do this job Experience in rehabilitation, psychiatry, neurobehavioral or developmental/ emotionally impaired patients, NICU, PICU, Peds, Nursery desirable. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Supervision Received Reports directly to the Unit Manager or Satellite Site Administrator Supervision Exercised No direct line supervision. Provides clinical direction and guidance for LPN's and PCA's INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS Directly interfaces daily with patients, visitors, other health care team and health care system staff TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED Operates patient care equipment and utilizes computers. PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases requiring the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional stress due to emergency situations or multiple demands. This job description identifies the general nature and level of work to be performed.
