Job DescriptionThis position is grant funded. Therefore, it is solely dependent of availability of grant funds.Provides mental health counseling to City residents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides behavioral health patient care, counseling, case management, and educational services necessary within the scope of practice of appropriate diagnosis screening, counseling, and treatment of various types of behavioral health illnesses, which may include: perinatal mood disorder, postpartum depression, provider role strain, social isolation, depression, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, substance abuse screening, rehabilitation, and treatment counseling.
  • Provides behavioral health, outreach, promotion and education to the community and systems of care.
  • Works with the program consulting psychiatrist to assure appropriate additional medical treatment, counseling, psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy.
  • Attends program meetings and community of practice calls to support implementation, evaluation, and management of grant objectives.
  • Assists with the development and refinement of clinical policies, procedures, and processes to ensure effective program delivery.
  • Evaluates co-factors if any to assure care and follows through such as for rehabilitation for substance abuse and behavioral health; provides recommendations on adjustments and revisions amongst medical staff to assure quality improvement and care.
  • Maintains up-to-date files on clients and keeps statistics as needed for program and client services.
  • Coordinates and conducts follow-up on all health care treatment, service plans, evaluation outcomes, and living situations
  • Provides testing as appropriate for license and makes appropriate referrals for services.
  • Performs outreach functions as needed
  • Acts as a resource on psychology for the departments patients and refers as appropriate to behavioral health and substance abuse community services.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum QualificationsRequired Education and Experience
  • Master's degree from an accredited* college or university in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in counseling, health care, or preventive services.

  • Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Councilor Associate (LPC-A), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP), or equivalent license from the State of Texas. Must provide copy of license to application
Valid Licenses or CertificationsValid Texas Driver License.
