We are Hiring a Hemp Field Inspector (On-Call) Position!The supports domestic and international trade of hemp plant material and hemp derived products, by providing sampling, testing, inspection, and licensing services that verify the pre-harvest condition, and THC concentration of hemp grown in the State.WSDA, Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB), and the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) have formed an interagency program to adopt and establish rule and statewide guidance for cannabis laboratory quality standards conducting analysis of recreational and medicinal cannabis with THC levels greater than 0.3 percent.WSDA has been designated as the lead agency by the Washington State Legislature in statute (RCW 15.150). The program must coordinate among all participating agencies on agency policies, actions, and regulatory activities that relate to cannabis testing laboratory quality standards.The program also advises WSDA on implementation and maintenance of cannabis testing laboratory quality standards topics including, but not limited to, analytical methods; validation protocols; quality assurance and quality control practices; project planning and sampling guides; and other topics as necessary to fulfill the purposes of the program and the legislation.The Hemp Field Inspector positions report directly to the WSDA Hemp Program Manager and conducts field inspections for hemp in an assigned geographical area. These positions will be working with the WSDA Hemp Program Manager and external customers to provide inspection services to hemp growers.
Position and Salary InformationWSDA is recruiting for an on-call Hemp Field Inspector position within the Agricultural Environmental Services Division. This position is located in Yakima, Washington and is not represented.The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The typical starting salary range for this position is: $16.52 Step A - $20.80 Step L annually/hourly.DutiesPerforms field inspection of licensed hemp growers:
  • Interpret and apply hemp sampling procedures while performing field inspections for hemp fields.
  • Read, interpret, comprehend, and follow inspections and methodology in policies, procedures, directives, notices, rules, and regulations relating to the position and the industry.
  • Follow established sample procedures when pulling and/or obtaining samples.
  • Use assigned equipment such as scales and pruning shears to obtain samples.
  • Package samples for transport according to established procedures and delivers samples to designated lab.
  • Complete hemp field inspection worksheets, maintains necessary information regarding licensee, field, and sample.
Prepares samples for Chemical and Hop Laboratory or other designated lab:
  • Cut, package, and label hemp samples for THC testing.
  • Deliver the samples to the lab for testing or providing the samples to another WSDA Hemp Field Inspector, following chain of custody, to deliver to the lab.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work Setting, including hazards:
  • Outdoor in varying weather conditions and agricultural settings to include walking on uneven land and temperature fluctuations.
  • Long periods of driving in often remote areas and on dirt roads.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Schedule:
  • Typically, Monday - Friday varied schedule.
  • Occasional long days to accommodate multiple inspections and long drives.
  • May include rotation or alternative shifts to include extended shifts, early starts and mandatory overtime as required.
  • Travel Requirements:
  • Frequent single-day trips to inspection sites throughout the region.
  • Tools and Equipment:
  • Pruning shears, knives, scales.
  • Cellular phone and computer.
  • Customer Interactions:
  • Farm owners and managers as well as industry stakeholders.
QualificationsRequired:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid driver's license
