- Hands-on role in the setup, operation, and cleaning of bench and pilot scale equipment, with focus on downstream recovery processes from fermentation broth through final product.
- Work on lab and pilot-scale processes including evaporation, drying, particle size reduction, solid-liquid and liquid-liquid extractions, filtration, separation, chemical modification, etc. Operate lab and pilot equipment and processes independently and with supervision.
- Follow best practices and Standard Operating Procedures to conduct activities, which includes weighing out chemicals to prepare mixtures following detailed instructions.
- Maintain inventory of materials and supplies as needed for operational activities.
- Adhere to facility safety practices to ensure safe operations.
- Conduct maintenance activities on relevant equipment: disassemble and reassemble pumps, centrifuges, homogenizers, filters, process piping, and other equipment of moderate complexity. Service equipment as needed to maintain in good working order. Communicate with vendors as needed to conduct equipment maintenance and support activities.
- Assist in installation of new equipment or modification of existing equipment.
- Conduct analytical methods required to monitor processes and materials.
- Document detailed observations of experiments, record data and assist with the analysis of results. Identify deviations with experiments and seeks appropriate advice to resolve.
- Write test protocols, SOP's and reports.
- Work within a cross functional team which includes Downstream Process Development, R&D, and Facilities with individual and team-based responsibilities.
- Maintains process area and equipment in good working order.

- Qualified applicants will possess a AA or BA/BS in a technical field (biotechnology, engineering, microbiology, etc.) with 2+ years' experience OR at least 5 years relevant experience with technical industrial setting.
- Prefer experience in operating and maintaining lab and pilot-scale process equipment (pumps, centrifuges, dryers, etc.).
- Demonstrated hands-on mechanical skills with maintenance of industrial equipment of moderate complexity (bioprocessing equipment and utility systems).
- Hands-on skills with instrumental analysis and wet chemistry preferred.
- Must be able to lift 20-40 lbs and safely move portable tanks ranging in size from 10-1000L.
- Able to stand for long periods at a time while monitoring operations and performing tasks.
- Experience with following Standard Operating Procedures for routine work and receive instructions for new processes.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with team.
- Capable of working in a fast paced environment without sacrificing accuracy, quality of work, and safety.
- Proficiency with windows computers using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint and other routine software.
- Work Monday through Friday with occasional weekends and shifted work schedules
