Community practice technicians contribute to patient assessment and handling, client communication and provide support for a variety of general procedures and laboratory analysis of samples. Technicians provide support to the service and teaching mission of the hospital in collaboration with faculty and veterinary students.30% Assisting with physical exams, obtaining diagnostic/laboratory samples (including venipuncture) & instructing students in proper animal care and restraint. Training and certifications for "fear free" restraint techniques in order to provide solid and trusted restraint in a number of situations.30% Assist with patient handling and nursing care including blood donor cats. Cleaning cages and runs, outside exercise areas around the hospital. These areas are cleaned via wiping, hosing, mopping, and Halo unit. Ability to follow protocols for infectious disease, sanitizing and providing a continuous clean environment. Proper handling and transport of trash, biohazard containers to appropriate areas for disposal pick-up.30% Assist with the day to day tasks; patient exercise, administering oral, aural, topical and ophthalmic medications, TPRs, sub cutaneous medication and fluid administration, analyzing fecals, heartworm tests, urinalyses, other diagnostics using in-house laboratory equipment, and sample collection. Basic animal nursing skills, recording in patient records utilizing and understanding medical terminology.10% Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory for department.
