Spur Staffing is looking for a hardworking and motivated Farm Manager in the Huntsville area for the Farm Manager position at Oakwood University. The ideal candidate will have a self-motivated attitude, will have knowledge and experience in harvesting, loading, and packing crops and materials in an efficient manner.Duties expected of this position are:-Plan, direct and/or coordinate the management or operations of the farms, greenhouses, aquacultural operations, nurseries, timber tracts, or other agricultural establishments.-Ability to manage day to day operations of a working farm.-Ability to manage, hire, train and supervise farm workers.-Ability to contract for services to carry out the day to day activities of the managed operation.-Implementation of organic farming practices along with aiding in Organic certification.-Knowledge and expertise with tractors, cultivation equipment, cropping sequences, rotation cover crops, irrigation systems, leading organic crop operation and farm supply.-Knowledge of Greenhouse vegetable production.-Able to work in adverse to extreme temperatures during seasons and physically able to lift 50 lbs or more.-Operate machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops.-Load agricultural products into trucks, drive trucks to market or storage facilities.-Record information about crops,such as: pesticide use, yields and/or cost.-Identify plants, pests and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers.-Harvest fruits and vegetables by hand and/or appropriate machinery.-Dig and plant seeds, transplant seedlings and/or plant developed plants by hand.-Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements and mechanical equipment.-Participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage and post-harvest treatment of crops.Uniform:-Workplace will provide uniform instructionQualifications expected of this position are:-Must be about to pass a pre-employment background check.-Must live in Huntsville or the surrounding area to commute for this position.-Must have farm/agricultural management experience-Must be able to endure challenging work conditions when necessary.-Must be enthusiastic, honest and have a great attitude.-Must be able to lift 50 lbs or more.-Must have some experience with local / urban and / or agriculture.-Must have a can-do attitude, be able to work well with others. manage and take direction.-Must be available Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pmStatus: Part-timePay Rate: $17.00-$19.00 p/hour depending on experienceWhat are the benefits of joining Spur?-Get paid weekly via direct deposit-Participate in an employee benefits program-Gain unlimited access to free online training opportunitiesOakwood University is a historically Black Seventh-day Adventist institution of higher learning that provides quality Christian education.
