A member of a transdisciplinary team and performs work in the child's natural environments. Responsible for providing evaluation, consultation and treatment services. Collaborates with a variety of multidisciplinary teams and community groups and assists to ensure a smooth transition for infants and toddlers and their families.Provides expertise in special education to enhance a child's overall development, focusing on the areas of personal-social skills, cognitive development, learning styles and behavior. Also, provides culturally sensitive family-centered care coordination. Requires independent judgment to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities for a full range of cases.This position is with the Family Health Services Division, Department of Health, is responsible for the provision of assistive technology support services to infants and toddlers with special needs and their families, in collaboration with multiple public and private agencies, and to staff members of early intervention programs.The duties and responsibilities of the position include facilitating and participating int he development, implementation and evaluation of educational technology intervention plans for infants and toddlers with special needs and their families; planning and evaluating educational technology projects to be incorporated within early intervention programs; researching and maintaining a lending a library of access tools, adapted toys, communicating devices, and computer software for enhancing the development of infants and toddlers with special needs; developing, conducting, and evaluating training sessions for early intervention program staff and parents; serving as a liaison between early intervention programs and various private agencies on educational technology projects; providing assistance with overall operation and educational application of various computers and related early intervention programs; and transporting equipment to learning centers, training classes, etc.Applicant must possess work experience included at least one (1) year of experience which involved the educational application of a variety of assistive technology devices, for children with physical, emotional, and/or mental disabilities, and which provided the knowledges and abilities described.Minimum Qualification RequirementsTo qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:Legal Authorization to Work Requirement:The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in human behavior or in a social science. Education MUST HAVE included a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in psychology and/or education, which included coursework in the learning process and child growth and development.Specialized Experience: Six (6) months of professional teaching experience assisting in and teaching a class for students with developmental disabilities which included managing small groups of students, assisting in and having some responsibility for planning and preparation of instructional materials and providing individual instruction to students.ORSatisfactory completion of practice teaching at an accredited college or university and satisfactory completion of twelve (12) additional semester credit-hours in Special Education with specialization in students with developmental disabilities.ANDPossess three (3) years of experience teaching students with developmental disabilities. This experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to work at the III level in the State service. Such experience must have involved the development and preparation of lesson plans and teaching units and experience in the overall management of a classroom.ORSatisfactory completion of twelve (12) semester credit hours in Special Education with specialization in students with developmental disabilities from an accredited college or university, AND one (1) year of experience as a professional teacher, not necessarily in teaching students with developmental disabilities. However, this teaching experience must have demonstrated conclusively that the applicant had experience and responsibility for planning and preparing for the independent operation of a classroom, which involved independently developing and preparing lesson and unit plans and carrying on overall classroom management.The Special Education Teacher III in State service has independent responsibility for an assigned classroom. Methods and activities are developed by the teacher for effective presentation of subject matter and the development of students, with full accountability for classroom management.Selective Certification Requirement: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of experience which involved the educational application of a variety of assistive technology devices including the use of personal computers with adaptive devices, for children with physical, emotional, and/or mental disabilities, and which provided the knowledge and abilities as described above.
