At Labor Finders we provide high-quality surveying services to our clients in the engineering and construction industry. We are looking for a Survey Crew Chief to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience leading a survey crew, as well as experience with GPS and traditional surveying equipment and methods. He or she will be responsible for the accuracy and quality of the surveys conducted by the crew, as well as the safety of the crew members. The Survey Crew Chief will also be responsible for maintaining the survey equipment and keeping accurate records of the surveys conducted.Survey Crew Chief Work Environment Survey crew chiefs work outdoors, often in remote areas, and sometimes in inclement weather. They spend most of their time walking over rough terrain, carrying and setting up survey equipment, and making measurements. They also spend time driving to and from work sites, preparing equipment for use, and cleaning and maintaining equipment. Survey crew chiefs typically work a 40-hour week, but they may work longer hours during peak periods or when deadlines must be met.Survey Crew Chief Skills Survey crew chiefs need the following skills in order to be successful:
Leadership: As a survey crew chief, you are responsible for the safety of your team and the quality of your work. You also need to be able to communicate with other members of the survey crew, including the surveyor, the survey team leader and the survey team members.
Problem-solving: Problem-solving skills allow you to identify issues and find solutions. As a survey crew chief, you may be responsible for overseeing the work of several surveyors. Having strong problem-solving skills can help you identify issues and find solutions that allow your team to complete their work efficiently.
Organization: As a crew chief, you need to be able to organize your team and the work you need to complete. You need to be able to plan out your workdays and keep track of the tasks you’ve completed and those you still need to do. Organization skills can also help you delegate tasks to your team members and keep track of their progress.
Safety: Safety is an important skill for survey crew chiefs to have because they oversee the safety of their team. They ensure that their team follows all safety protocols and procedures and that they have the right equipment to do their job safely.Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the leader of a field survey crew, providing guidance and instruction to ensure quality work is completed in a timely manner
  • Oversee all aspects of field surveys, including data collection, equipment operation, and safety procedures
  • Train new members of the survey crew on proper techniques and protocols
  • Maintain accurate records of survey data and results
  • Analyze survey data and prepare reports for clients
  • Work with other professionals, such as engineers and planners, to determine the best surveying methods for each project
  • Select and purchase necessary surveying equipment and supplies
  • Schedule survey projects and crews based on client needs and deadlines
  • Manage budget and invoicing for survey projects
  • Coordinate with property owners and managers to gain access to survey sites
  • Resolve any issues that arise during surveys, such as bad weather or equipment problems
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are followed during surveys

  • A survey crew chief typically needs to have the following qualifications:
  • Education: We are looking for 2 + years of experience
  • Training & Experience: Most survey crew chiefs will receive on-the-job training from their new employer. This training will help the survey crew chief learn the specific procedures and methods the company uses to complete their work. The training may last for a few weeks or months, depending on the company and the complexity of the work.
  • Pass a Drug screen and Background Check
  • Clean Driving Record
  • Experience with GPS equipment and surveying software
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and legal descriptions
  • Strong math skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
