- Inform managers of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
- Able to communicate mechanical system selections to include codes and guidelines, sustainable design, interdisciplinary coordination with key project stakeholders.
- Develop construction drawing packages and write construction specifications on intermediate projects of limited complexity and with little oversight.
- Model different aspects of a facility to include MEP FP and structural components within industry software packages (AutoCAD, Revit MEP).
- Select and layout mechanical equipment such as pumps, chillers, fans and boilers.
- Design and coordinate ductwork and piping systems, layout of mechanical equipment rooms, performing load calculations, and providing construction administration services.
- Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, and cost of design or applications.
- Research design, and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Support the development of designs, specifications, systems narratives, and system layouts for a variety of projects and project sizes.
- Review engineering design proposals, design drawings, specifications and other technical document submissions and recommend improvements to support changes.
- Assists Project Manager by preparing all necessary back-up related material needed for change requests or information requests.
- Assist in the technical training and upgrading of skills of more junior personnel.
- Conduct field surveys of existing conditions for design development and system recommendations
- Work with senior leadership to grow our mechanical practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Valid up to date Professional Engineering Licensed for the state of Virginia. (North Carolina and Maryland is a plus.)
- 10 years of experience in a commercial construction environment; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Able to pass background checks.
- Experience with usage on Autodesk software (Revit, Revit with Fabrication CAD MEP parts, Navisworks)
- Well experienced with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems designs with limited supervision required.
- Experience with performing load calculations using design software.
- Experience with computational fluid dynamics software
- Experience with calculating tolerances, dimensions, and thermal analyses
- Experience with the mechanical/plumbing code
- Knowledge of the ASHRAE standards, International Building Code, and pertinent NFPA publications related to mechanical systems.
- Required software competencies include MS Excel, MS Word, and Bluebeam
- Must be able to pass pre-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history)
- Because this position may have access to company vehicles, candidates must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and must be insured.
- Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Position may require visits to construction sites to perform investigative duties in open, noisy and dusty spaces.
- Must be available to work assigned schedules and extended hours as needed including day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours as needed for tight schedules and shutdowns.
- This job requires intermittent times needed long period of sitting.
- The job requires the ability to visit commercial and industrial sites for the intent of performing inspections and observations that may be physically demanding. These inspections and observations may be made at heights, in confined spaces, and may require the use of a respirator to perform the inspections.
- Work in field conditions which includes, but not limited to, climbing ladders, riding lifts, entering containment areas.
- Must be comfortable at heights while inspecting jobsite.
- May require infrequent travel

- Familiarity with cloud based PM software
