A 1st Class Ship Fitter lays out and fabricates metal structural parts and braces them in position within hull of vessel
for welding.Qualifications:
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE (YEARS)
- Five (5) years of marine or four (4) years of continuous Company experience preferred.
- Comprehends blueprints, sketches, and templates.
- Able to enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces.
- Accurate in performing the following processes layout, cutting, measuring, and fitting.
- Determines the position of structural components working from blueprints or templates.
- Provides direction to subordinate ship fitters and tack welders.
- Uses blueprints to lay out position of parts on metal.
- Locates and marks reference lines, such as center, buttock, and frame lines.
- Positions parts in hull of vessel and align parts in relation to each other.
- Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding or riveting.
- Installs packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members.
- Tack welds clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
- Bends, flanges, cuts, and shapes plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts.
- Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces.
- Must be able to work/climb in elevations greater than 5’.
- Must be able to wear/work a respirator when applicable.
- Must follow all Company policies and procedures, including those relative to employee safety, environmental
- policy, and the principles of our quality system.
- Other duties assigned or requested by Management.
- Works overtime as required.
- Reports to work daily and on time.
